Damsel Sends You a Strawberry

Our strawberry vine is still producing delicious fruit in late November. This ripe one is soon destined to garnish a fruit cup or maybe a margarita!

City Gardening says:

Strawberries are one of the most widely adapted plants around, they can be grown from the tropics to the arctic. These delicious berries can be grown in soils ranging from clay to sandy soils as long as it is provided with adequate moisture, good drainage, and nutrients. Strawberries grow best in a light, fertile soil, rich in organic matter.

Strawberries with their attractive foliage, white flowers and beautiful red or yellow berries make an attractive ground cover besides being tasty. Additionally, they require little space as compared to many other fruit bearing plants.

Tony Bennett to Retrieve Heart from San Francisco

“I can’t see leaving my heart in a place that has no heart of it’s own,” the famous crooner lamented. “It used to have class, but since the influx of weirdos, degenerates, hippies and socially-challenged geeks, it has become the ‘leper colony’ of America. There should be warning signs on the highways proclaiming unclean ahead at the city limits.”

Mr. Bennett then went high on a hill to fetch his detatched organ and proceeded to a nearby red state and placed it in an undisclosed location pending a new city to adopt.

L. A. Times Cuts Editorial Staff

Could this signal the demise of one of the most left-leaning newspapers in America? I hope the hell so!

Five Tribune Newspapers to Seek Job Cuts – Yahoo! News

LOS ANGELES – Five newspapers owned by Tribune Co., including the company’s two flagship papers in Chicago and Los Angeles, said Wednesday they will cut jobs amid declining circulation and revenue.

The cuts come one week after another Tribune paper, The (Baltimore) Sun, and Knight Ridder Inc.’s San Jose Mercury News both announced similar cost-cutting moves.

The Los Angeles Times said Wednesday it is eliminating about 85 newsroom positions, or approximately 8 percent of its editorial staff.

Toys for Tots

Hey! Wanna get a nice pre-Christmas endorphin high (that’s ‘feel good’ to you non-nerds)? Then follow this simple regimen . . . Damsel and I did and it’s a great feeling!

  • Go to Big Lots (or another discount retailer in your area)
  • Buy several toys in the $5 to $15 dollar range (knock-offs overstocks, etc – kids don’t care)
  • Give them to the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Drive
  • Write ’em off on your taxes (not mandatory, but a few good endorphins result)
  • Feel like Santa for one hot minute (lotsa good endorphins)

I guarantee you will be glad you did!

Jupiter’s Massive Winds Likely Generated From Deep Inside Its Interior, Scientists Report

A new computer model indicates Jupiter’s massive winds are generated from deep within the giant planet’s interior, a UCLA scientist and international colleagues report in the journal Nature.

Jupiter’s powerful winds are very different from those on Earth. They continually circle the planet, and have changed very little in the 300 years that scientists have studied them. Massive east-west winds in Jupiter’s equatorial region reach approximately 340 miles per hour — twice as rapid as winds generated by strong hurricanes on Earth. At higher latitudes, the wind pattern switches to alternating jets that race around the planet.
