Whacko Politics

Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock . . .

glock-26.gifThat’s the sound of the ridiculous 10-day California waiting-period clock when you purchase a firearm. Background checks are practically instantaneous these days and the database for determining the suitability of a gun purchaser is virtually available twenty-four/seven.

Knowing that it takes far less than ten days to get this information can only mean that the ultra-liberal California nanny-state legislature is targeting the legitimate firearms enthusiast with a punitive delay harassment. I’m sure the underground firearms trade in the state have no such rules. Who is actually getting punished? Law-abiding gun purchasers and dealers! What a bunch of crap!

OK – there now that I’ve got that off my chest, I’m pleased to report that there are now less than the original 864,000 waiting period ticks left until I take possession of my newly-purchased (but yet to be acquired) Glock 26 9mm subcompact pistol. Ever since Damsel got her pocket-sized shooter, I’ve had a hankering for a little pistol. Last week, we took one of these for a test drive and liked it, so today we made the deal and started the wait. Click on the thumbnail above for a larger view of this neat little gun.

Clinton Shows Her Military Malice

Senator Clinton is at it again. This time she shot off her mouth to the Pentagon demanding they prepare to withdraw troops from Iraq. This malicious attack on our Military should convince Americans that Clinton, not unlike John Kerry, is “Unfit for Command.”

Eric Edelman, the Defense Department’s undersecretary for policy, offered a sharply-worded response (to Clinton’s demands), saying such discussions boost the enemy.

“Premature and public discussion of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq reinforces enemy propaganda that the United States will abandon its allies in Iraq, much as we are perceived to have done in Vietnam, Lebanon and Somalia,” Edelman wrote.

Judge Tosses Out Plame Lawsuit

Just like we’ve been saying all along, Wilson and Plame are LIARS!

Judge Dismisses former CIA Operative Valerie Plame’s Lawsuit Against Bush Administration

WASHINGTON — A federal judge dismissed former CIA operative Valerie Plame’s lawsuit against members of the Bush administration Thursday, eliminating one of the last courtroom remnants of the leak scandal.

Plame, the wife of former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, had accused Vice President Dick Cheney and others of conspiring to leak her identity in 2003. Plame said that violated her privacy rights and was illegal retribution for her husband’s criticism of the administration.

U.S. District Judge John D. Bates dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds and said he would not express an opinion on the constitutional arguments. Bates dismissed the case against all defendants: Cheney, White House political adviser Karl Rove, former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby and former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.

Apocalypse — Not!

four-horsemen-apocalypse.jpgLast week, I found a website (thanks again, Rick) where four excellent essays offer the perfect rebuttal to the nonsense that Al Gore produced in his recent crockumentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

These four essays, “The Four Horsemen of the Non-Apocalypse,” as it were, are grouped into a page entitled “Good news, Mr. Gore, the Apocalypse has been postponed.”

The first essay, “The Gospel According to Gore,” shares some insight into the reasons that some become alarmed, while analyzing the difference between “consensus” and actual scientific discovery.

Al Gore Goes to Hollywood (But Not To CalTech) reveals some of the junk science that Gore uses in his film, “An Inconvenient truth.” The essay shows how Gore overlooks scientific facts while mesmerizing the audience into watching the doom unfold (never mind the man behind the curtain, Dorothy).

The third topic, “Unlikely CO2, Possible Meteorites, Probable Sunshine,” is a discussion of things that are actually known to affect climate, and how anthropogenic phenomena such as urban heat islands have little effect on global climate, if any.

Finally, “Counting the Cost of the Precautionary Principle” discusses emission reduction treaties, alternative energy sources and the costs, in terms of both economics and politics, of “going green.”

More Democratic Party Cowardice

House Minority Leader, John Boehner on the Democrats’ bill to retreat from Iraq by April 2008: “This is not leadership. This is negligence.”

A note about tonight’s vote on Iraq: Is this really a win for Democrats?

boehner.jpgToday, for the sixth time in as many months, Democrat leaders offered legislation that cheers for retreat in our war with radical jihadists in Iraq. It outlines no “new way forward” in Iraq at all – no plan for a safer Middle East or a safer America; no guarantees for the safety of the Iraqi people; no plan to prevent Iraq from becoming a breeding ground for terrorists; no consideration of the disastrous consequences of precipitous withdrawal; and completely disregards the safety of American troops.

In short, the Democrats’ bill does not constitute any “new direction” whatsoever – it just changes the subject on the Democrats’ failure to govern on every domestic policy issue under the sun.

In the meantime, House Republicans:

1. Remained unified today in supporting our troops and giving General Petraeus a chance to succeed – consistent with their firm belief that our generals on the ground should make military decisions, not politicians in Washington, DC.

2. Secured passage of the funding bill for our troops six weeks ago, enabled the General to receive the full complement of reinforcements three weeks ago, and refused to support the Democrats’ latest partisan charade to renege on those Congressional commitments.

3. Exposed the Democrats’ penchant to over-reach and pander to the Ultra-Liberal Left on Iraq. The “record of genuine bipartisanship” they promised last year has been non-existent this year; their blatant partisanship makes it that much easier for Republican members to stay united.

4. Repeatedly made it clear that Democrats have NO plan for Iraq should their plan to withdraw troops immediately pass, other than to leave Iraq in chaos.

5. Maintained a principled stand, never cowering to pressure from millions of dollars in political advertising by the outside groups that coordinate with Democrats. Republicans continue to do the right thing for the right reasons, regardless of the polls.

Democrats want to throw open the borders, disengage from fighting terrorism, protect criminals from justice and they want to take my guns away so I can’t defend myself against the havoc their insane policies will inevitably wreak.

How Not To Name An Immigration Bill

Last week the reanimated shamnesty bill finally bit the dust (at least this time around). While pundits analyze the bill’s defeat as being due to this or that reason, I contend that you can’t tack weasel words on the title like a glaring earmark:

Bill before the Senate – S.1639

Title: A bill to provide for comprehensive immigration reform and for other purposes.

Sponsor: Sen Kennedy, Edward M. [MA] (introduced 6/18/2007)

bush-kennedy.jpg“And for other purposes?” What the hell does that mean? Now, if that doesn’t set off alarms in the wheelhouse, I don’t know what would.

In the real world, when you set out to establish a contract with a customer (or the people of America), you must, at the very least, make the intent of the language in the contract abundantly clear and succinct. Tacking words like “and for other purposes” at the end of the title should either cause fear, or uproarious laughter, depending on your position. Ain’t that right Dubya? Teddy?

Thank God that enough Americans got in contact with the Senate and raised enough hell that this bill was soundly rejected. Now, all we need to do is keep an eye on the House of Representatives and make sure that they get the message as well when their own bills emerge.

The Amnestybill Horror

UPDATE: June 28, 2007 – Shamnesty goes down to defeat – 46 yea to 53 nay. HOORAY!

Support from Americans most certainly drove this outcome. So many calls were received that the phone system crashed! Now is the time to thank those senators who voted against this monstrosity and remind them that the borders still need to be made secure.

amity.jpgThe Amnestybill Horror is back and working it’s way through the Senate.

The film “Amityville Horror” was a box office success despite being given poor reviews by critics such as Leonard Maltin and Roger Ebert, who described it as “dreary and terminally depressing.

The past few weeks have been “dreary and terminally depressing” for those of us who oppose this terrible legislation. It’s as if our Senators have gone totally deaf.

While President Bush, key Republicans and most Democrats in the Senate embrace this turd, seventy percent of Americans see it for what it is – a badly cobbled together morass of pork, inadequate security and abundant entitlements for illegal aliens. Yep – illegal means they broke the lawillegal means they should be punished, deported and get in the back of the line.

I’m told that there’s still time to do something about it . . .
