The Bishop’s Cap

I look forward to late spring and early summer in our patio garden when the cactus flowers bloom. This flower is open today on my Bishop’s Cap cactus which is so named because of its shape. Click on the image to enlarge.

State Line Panorama

Damsel snapped a photo of the Colorado River just as we crossed into Arizona on I-10 at the beginning of our recent vacation. I cropped it into a panoramic view of the river, both states and a suspension pipeline crossing the river just south of the interstate bridge. Click the image for the full panorama.

Mountain View

Every once in a while, I get a shot of the Damsel doing what she loves to do: taking pictures. We were at keys View in Joshua Tree National Park on a nice, clear day. Click on the image to enlarge.

California DMV

Via The Patriot Post:

Immigration Front: DMV Helping Illegals

dmv.pngIn the midst of absurd liberal cries of Nazism following the passage of the new Arizona immigration law, four employees of the California Department of Motor Vehicles were arrested for conspiring to sell false driver’s licenses and registrations to, among others, illegal immigrants. They were charged with grand theft, illegal computer access, bribery, and using documents to conceal immigration status, but perhaps they should be thanked for exposing yet another troubling aspect of illegal immigration. These DMV employees, no doubt, were not going to do background checks on those to whom they were issuing falsified documents — whether those who had come to the U.S. to work, or those who had come here to conspire against us.

Salton Sea from Keys View

We visited the Joshua Tree National Park today. As always when we come here, we drove to Keys View to see the spectacular panorama overlooking the Coachella Valley and Salton Sea. This photo (slightly enhanced to reduce the haze) shows the Salton Sea just above the tops of the mountain ridge in the foreground. Click on the image to enlarge.

Frühlingsgold Epiphyllum Flower

spring-gold.jpgThe German name translates into ‘spring gold.’ These beautiful canary yellow spider-like flowers have been coming to our patio for the last two years.

We acquired the original epiphyllum cutting from our local botanic garden in 2008. It produced a couple of flowers soon after we got it home. This year it’s on track to have a dozen or more flowers.

I took this shot this morning on the patio just as soon as the sun peeked through the clouds. Click on the image to enlarge.
