Emphasis on European Sewers

Emphasis

There is a new technology being tried out in Europe. It uses technology to detect homemade bomb-makers by sensing chemicals in the air and in sewers in urban areas. It is sponsored by the European Union.

According to an article on Fox Business, the technology works thus:

The sewer-based sensing system would use electrochemical water- and air-sampling to detect certain chemicals typically used for home-made bombs as they travel through the waste stream in urban areas.

One wonders whether the NSA isn’t already doing this in the US . . .

Calm Before the Storm

Sunset

This was the view right around sundown last evening. About an hour later, the wind came up, we heard thunder and saw lightning flashes. We got a nice steady shower for about fifteen minutes – just enough to soak into the desert soil. Click on the image to enlarge.

Happy Halloween

Halloween Dog

Since our house is located on an unlit unpaved road away from where kids would go on Halloween, we don’t get any tricksters. But, that’s probably a good thing since our Min-Pins tend to be overprotective and raise a ruckus whenever anybody comes calling.

We still enjoy the spirit (no pun intended) of Halloween and decorate accordingly, including our little girl Min-Pin, Cabela. Click on the image to enlarge.

Harvesting Our Garden

Harvest Peppers

This past weekend, we harvested a few Anaheim chili peppers that were growing in pots in our courtyard. I prepared them according to a recipe for Tex-Mex chicken enchilada casserole. They, and the casserole, were delicious!

Just around the corner in the courtyard, are some tomatoes that we hope will ripen before the first freeze. We will have those in another tempting (and healthy) dish after we harvest them. Click on the image to enlarge.

Spider Mums

Spider Mums

I bought several stems of these nice spider mums at the flower concession in our local supermarket. I like the bright yellow color and the interesting petal arrangement of these flowers. Click on the image to enlarge.
