Ancient Oceans Warmer than a Hot Tub
Scientists have found evidence that tropical Atlantic Ocean temperatures may have once reached 107°F (42°C) – about 25°F (14°C) higher than ocean temperatures today and warmer than a hot tub. The surprisingly high ocean temperatures, the warmest estimates to date for any place on Earth, occurred millions of year ago when carbon dioxide levels in Earth’s atmosphere were also high, but researchers say they may be an indication that greenhouse gases could heat the oceans in the future much more than currently anticipated. The study suggests that climate models underestimate future warming.

“These temperatures are off the charts from what we’ve seen before,” said Karen Bice, a paleo climatologist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). Bice reported the findings Feb. 17, 2006, at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in St. Louis and is also lead author of a study to be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Paleoceanography, published by the American Geophysical Union.Bice and a multi-institutional team of scientists studied three long columns of sediment cored from the seafloor in 2003 off Suriname, on the northeast coast of South America, by the drillship JOIDES Resolution, operated by the international Ocean Drilling Program.
The sediments contained an unusually rich and well-preserved accumulation of both carbon-rich organic matter and the fossilized shells of microscopic marine organisms that had settled and piled up on the seafloor over tens of millions of years. The deeper down in the core the scientists analyzed, the further back in time they went.
The team analyzed the shells isotopic and trace element chemistry, which changes along with temperature changes in the surface waters where they lived. They determined that ocean temperatures in the region ranged between 91° and 107°F (33° and 42°C) between 84 million and 100 million years ago in an era when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Temperatures range between 75° and 82°F (24° and 28°C) in the same region now. The approximate uncertainty in the paleotemperature estimates is ~2°C.
Using organic matter from the sediments, the group also estimated atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations during the same time span. They were 1,300 to 2,300 parts per million (ppm), compared with 380 ppm today.
Notice that last little tidbit about carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. How could the levels possibly be 4 to 8 times greater than their present values? Natural phenomena is the correct answer: Solar x-ray flares, magnetic storms, mass coronal ejections, lightning, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, earth impactors, whatever . . . and certainly not anything from humans since we weren’t invented then.
Richard Dreyfuss – Star Whore
Please welcome Richard Dreyfuss to the Star Whores Hall of Shame. Yesterday, during a speech at the National Press Club, Dreyfuss had the following things to say:
There are causes worth fighting for even if you know that you will lose, unless you are willing to accept torture as part of a normal American political lexicon, unless you are willing to accept that leaving the Geneva Convention is fine and dandy, if you accept the expansion of wiretapping as business as usual, the only way to express this now is to embrace the difficult and perhaps embarrassing process of impeachment. [Impeachment] is a statement that we refuse to endorse bad behavior. If we refuse to debate the appropriateness of the process of impeachment, we endorse that behavior, and we approve the enlargement of executive power, regardless of whoever may occupy the White House in the future.

Now, it is not your job as the press to impeach George Bush. [However, people in the media should] maintain the integrity of that debate by not dismissing the topic out of hand as partisan or unpatriotic.
Lets recapitulate the lies in Mr. Dreyfuss’ statement:
- [The military uses] torture – only legal methods of interrogation are used. This has been verified by members of Congress first-hand. Dreyfuss’ insinuation here is just flat not true.
- The US does not observe the Geneva Conventions – The US does, but the conventions do not apply to terrorists illegally engaging in combat. A blatant lie, Mr. Dreyfuss
- The expansion of wiretapping – Congress approved wiretapping for post-9/11 monitoring of the enemies of the US. Moreover these powers have been in place for previous administrations. Another misguided prevarication.
- [The administration has expanded] executive power – Actually, Congress also approved executive powers in the War on Terror, and maintains the right to oversight. Again Mr. Dreyfuss sounds like he is channeling Howard Dean‘s insane rants.
And here’s a little stroll down memory lane for Richard Dreyfuss:
Between 1978 and 1982, Dreyfuss acted in several films, but none did particularly well at the box office. This led to a growing drug dependency, which ended one night in 1982, when his car hit a tree and he was arrested for possession of cocaine.
So, let me get this straight; the National Press Club, and the media in general are supposed to take this sage advice from a reformed[?] cocaine user? He certainly sounded like he was suffering from the delusional after-effects of drugs and pain-killers during his speech.
And I wonder if Dreyfuss is trying to look like Dick Cheney? This has nothing to do with his induction into the hall, but I still wonder . . .
At any rate, please welcome Dreyfuss to the “Delusional Moonbat” gallery in the Star Whores Hall of Shame.

Somebody please tell me that this bitch and her accomplice aren’t getting only 16 months for this crap. She and her middle-man should be getting 5 to 10 years for endangering our community by selling drivers licenses to hordes of illegal aliens now happily driving around (statistically) without insurance, thus raising the cost of driving for legitimate citizens.

DMV representative took cash for phony licenses
A worker at the California Department of Motor Vehicles office in Torrance took tens of thousands of dollars in cash bribes to hand out phony drivers’ licenses to illegal immigrants, authorities said Tuesday.
Toi Shamara Kingsbury, a motor vehicle field representative at the Torrance office from 2001 to 2005, has pleaded guilty to bribery charges.
Kingsbury, 31, of Los Angeles, was arrested Nov. 9 at a restaurant where investigators watched her commit a “hand-to-hand exchange involving cash for fraudulent drivers’ licenses,” DMV spokesman Mike Miller said.
A “middleman,” Ronald Kirk, 35, also pleaded guilty. Prosecutors said he brought people wanting licenses to Kingsbury.
Orange County Auto Theft Task Force agents first suspected Kingsbury of a crime when they discovered she had switched a vehicle identification number on an auto in the DMV’s computer system, Miller said. That auto-theft case is pending in Orange County.
Undercover DMV investigators soon began watching Kingsbury work at the office at 1785 W. 220th St.
“They witnessed blatant fraud,” Miller said.

“The scam involved selling drivers’ licenses to people who didn’t necessarily have the documents to get them,” said Deputy District Attorney Max Huntsman, the prosecutor on the case. “We believe she made a lot of profit off this operation.”
The case remains under investigation, and it was not clear how many fraudulent licenses Kingsbury processed and for how long.
Kingsbury has pleaded guilty to receiving bribes and is scheduled to be sentenced April 7 to 16 months in state prison and ordered to pay a $135,000 fine, the DMV said.
And that’s not the end of it – if California Democrats pass their insane legislation for letting ALL illegals have access to drivers licenses, people like this bitch will be out of business, BUT the problem will increase many-fold. And take it a step further and consider the terrorist implications of a license giveaway.
NSA Terrorist Monitoring Saves L.A. Landmark
Thanks to the legal and essential NSA wiretapping program initiated by the Commander-in-Chief, the tallest building in Los Angeles still stands. Today, President Bush related how the program thwarted a possible attack on the Los Angeles Library/U.S. Bank tower in downtown. During a live speech before the National Guard Association the President revealed details about a terror plot to fly a plane into the Library Tower which was planned in the weeks after Sept. 11. He said that al Qaeda planned to use operatives from southeast Asia who would be armed as shoe bombers to break through fortified cockpit doors.
For the sake of the continued protection of America and her allies, critics of the NSA program should shut the hell up and let the program do its job. Moonbats like Jimmy Carter and others who equate this legal program with questionable policies of previous administrations serve only to weaken America. If you don’t have any terrorist connections, you should be overjoyed that this program is working.
Those of us who have nothing to hide welcome the program and look forward to continued successful thwarting of terrorist plots.

The San Andreas Fault isn’t the only defining coastal fracture zone in California. Check out the demographic depiction below. Is it something in the seawater that makes coastal residents politically stupid? Thank God that some of us are immune to whatever might be causing the insanity, even though we are only a few miles from the beach.

It may not be a seismic split akin to the San Andreas Fault. But politically, it may as well be.California is increasingly divided between a coastal “blue” state and an inland “red” state, according to a recent study by the Field Poll on state election trends.
And Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger may want to think twice about spending too much time campaigning among his Hollywood friends. The study suggests he might first work to shore up his Republican base throughout much of the Central Valley.
Coastal voters – in 20 counties from San Diego to Del Norte – favor Democratic candidates by sweeping margins. Meanwhile, California’s 38 inland counties overwhelmingly favor Republicans, according to the Field study, which analyzed 15 years of state political trends.
The coastal-inland divide was demonstrated in the 2004 presidential election, when Democratic candidate John Kerry outpolled President Bush, 59 percent to 40 percent, among coastal voters while Bush led, 57 percent to 42 percent, among inland voters.
Differences between coastal and inland voters don’t end at the ballot box, the study found.
