Back in Arizona

igo.gifWe’re in Arizona this week doing chores for the new house, so blogging will be light. We did not post yesterday because someone (maybe it was me) forgot to pack up the AC power converter/charger for the laptop. Damsel had hers with her but it isn’t compatible with my laptop. Since the battery only lasts about two hours (even with the low power settings), I budgeted the time for downloading Damsel’s photos and updating the money program.

Today, we drove to Surprise, AZ to a Radio Shack store to pick up a universal AC supply manufactured by iGo (seen at right). While we were in the store, I made them open up the package and demonstrate that it was equivalent to the charger I inadvertently left in California. Bottom line is that we’re good to go.

We observed good progress on our new Arizona house. You can see it on the other blog.

Government Motors Buys Volt World Series Ad

They might as well buy time on a NASCAR event. What a waste of taxpayer funds . . .

From Planet Gore:

Peanuts, Cracker Jacks . . . and Elitist Green Transportation?

Detroit – Underscoring the perils of government ownership, GM will launch the new electric plug-in Chevy Volt with an ad buy during this month’s World Series.

That is, in the middle of the American pasttime’s premier event, Government Motors will use taxpayer money to buy premium ad time to pitch a money-losing, taxpayer-subsidized, Washington-approved, green automobile to America’s upper-class green snobs.

Rather than applause for good ol’ American know-how that GM anticipates, the public might well see the Volt as a symbol of government excess, more a federal-spending flop rather than the rebirth of a “high-tech” GM.

The ad buy may also endanger the Chevy brand. While the spots will trumpet Chevrolet’s 100-year heritage and a place in American culture next to baseball, that place is occupied by middle-American Chevy buyers. The Volt is priced for the BMW class and its elite tastes.

Will such consumers want a Chevy?

I hereby resolve to go out and buy the biggest Ford Truck or SUV with a 5.8 liter V8.

Buzzard’s Saloon

One of the more interesting landmarks along the route from Wickenburg to the Phoenix metropolitan area is Buzzard’s Saloon near Morristown, AZ. Buzzard’s may be closed for the summer because the gate always seems to be closed. Many businesses in town post signs that they are closed until fall. Click on the image to enlarge.

Lake Pleasant

We can be at Lake Pleasant in less than an hour from our new house in Arizona. I took this photo in July of this year. It was a little too warm that day for a picnic, so we just did some sightseeing before we drove back to town. It is indeed a pleasant lake and state park. Click on the image to enlarge.

Kitchen Preview

kitchen.jpgWhen we were in Wickenburg earlier this month, Damsel ordered all of the appliances for the new house. There is an appliance store in town where our contractor recommended we order the new equipment.

The kitchen appliances will all be stainless steel. Damsel ordered a 23 cubic foot stainless side-by-side freezer and fridge. The microwave sits over the five burner stainless range and oven which is a one-piece built in unit, as is the dishwasher. We will have a stainless two-tub sink under the kitchen window.

I went on to Lowe’s virtual room designer and built the kitchen seen here. Our actual kitchen will not be quite as wide as this model but the appliances will be placed roughly as shown. Our cabinets will probably look a bit different than those pictured here since we went with a rustic southwestern finish.
