Fathers Day Cookout

surf-turf.jpgWe planned our cuisine for Fathers Day to consist of a “surf and turf” menu. I went to the butcher counter in the local supermarket earlier this week and asked for a couple of beef tenderloin steaks and some fresh Atlantic salmon filets.

We baked the salmon and some potato wedges on the outdoor grill with the hood closed. When they were mostly done, I opened the hood and put the steaks on the grill. We like our steaks medium rare, so they were on the grill for about twenty-five minutes.

We served the entree with the aforementioned potato wedges, baby green peas and asparagus spears (lots of fiber y’know). A sumptuous Fathers Day meal, indeed. 🙂

Arizona Gazanias

I’ve always loved the gazanias that we had in California. Maybe I will bring some of them back to Arizona on our next trip out west. We were at the nursery in town today and saw these in bloom. I wasn’t sure how they would do in this climate, but, as you can see, they are just fine! Click on the image to enlarge.

Flag Day in Wickenburg

Several times during the year, the Wickenburg Chapter of the American Legion places US flags in the historic downtown area and along the two main drags through town. Today, Flag Day, we ventured out for several errands and were delighted at the patriotic display. This image was taken along East Wickenburg Way (US 60) near old downtown looking west.
