Rush to Ban Guns

US Representative Rush, D-ILL (should be DULL)Anti-gun Democrats just can’t wait to unleash the greatest barrage of harassment to legitimate gun ownership in the history of the US Congress. At the center of today’s anti-gun attitude is one Bobby Rush, a U.S. Representative from Illinois. He seems to be in a rush to deny gun ownership. Like Barack Obama, who once told John Lott that he didn’t think anyone should own a gun, Rush has adopted the same position and has taken the first steps toward the goal of eliminating all guns from private citizens.

According to David Codrea, of Guns Magazine, “This is nothing less than a declaration of war on American gun owners.”

World Net Daily reveals that this legislation would require that legitimate gun owners would have to comply with these ridiculous measures:

Among the more controversial provisions of the bill are requirements that all handgun owners submit to the federal government a photo, thumb print and mental heath records. Further, the bill would order the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer and owner’s address in America.

Rush thinks that just because some thug jumps on a Chicago bus and shoots and kills Blair Holt, a passenger on the bus, that ALL gun owners must be punished by having to obtain a Federal “Blair Holt” gun license.

Somebody ought to look at Bobby Rush’s mental health records.

Liberty Sphere has a run down of this and a bunch of other Second Amendment issues on the Round-Up.

Science and Politics Don’t Mix

I watched an interview on a news program today that featured a ‘climate expert’ explaining away the recent winter storms as being a consequence of global warming. This ‘expert’ contended that the severity of winter storms actually increases because of anthropogenic climate contributions.

The ‘expert’ blithely ignores actual science – for instance, the current lull in sunspots and solar activity. For the past two years, sunspots have been few and far between. He also ignores the fact that polar ice caps are not decreasing, Florida’s land mass is not decreasing due to a rise in sea level and global ocean temperatures have decreased over the past several years (since 1998).

James Taranto posted the following piece in the “Best of the Web Today” on the topic of selective science validation:

Science’s Ordinary Magisterium

“Scientists have found two large leaks in Earth’s magnetosphere, the region around our planet that shields us from severe solar storms,” Space.com reports:

The leaks are defying many of scientists’ previous ideas on how the interaction between Earth’s magnetosphere and solar wind occurs: The leaks are in an unexpected location, let in solar particles in faster than expected and the whole interaction works in a manner that is completely the opposite of what scientists had thought.

Laymen may be confused by the notion of a scientific discovery “that is completely the opposite of what scientists had thought.” After all, we keep reading that all scientists agree about global warming and no one may question it. Is science infallible or isn’t it?

The answer is: It depends. Scientific teachings that are part of the “ordinary magisterium,” such as those involving the interaction between Earth’s magnetosphere and solar wind, are not infallible. But global warming is what scientists call an ex cathedra* doctrine.

* In Catholic theology, the Latin phrase ex cathedra, literally meaning “from the chair”, refers to a teaching by the pope that is considered to be made with the intention of invoking infallibility. This is a concept that always has and always been unknown to true science – everything that is ‘known’ can be modified when ‘new knowledge’ is discovered.

Greenbats
choose to cover their ears and say “la-la-la-la-la – I’m not listening,” when actual facts contradict their tunnel-vision views on climate. Very scientific, indeed.

Upstanding governor: “I’m going to keep [Obama’s] Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain. You hear what I’m saying? And if I don’t get what I want and I’m not satisfied with it, then I’ll just take the Senate seat myself. …[The seat] is a f***ing valuable thing — you just don’t give it away for nothing.” — Illinois Democrat Gov. Rod Blagojevich in secretly taped phone conversations about filling Obama’s Senate seat

Bad idea: “I should say if anybody wants to tape my conversations, go right ahead, feel free to do it. I appreciate anybody who wants to tape me openly and notoriously, and those who feel like they want to sneakily and wear taping devices, I would remind them that it kind of smells like Nixon and Watergate.” — Rod Blagojevich before his arrest

Deny everything: “I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.” — Barack Obama, friend and ally of Gov. Blagojevich

Somebody’s lying: “I know he’s talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.” — Obama adviser David Axelrod on 23 November (Axelrod now says he was “mistaken” when he said that)

New NRA Website

There is a new website up to address the political views of Barack Obama. The NRA makes information available that highlights Obama’s anti-second amendment views and the lies he tells to ‘make them go away’. From the new site GunBaNObama.com:

“So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them….” — Barack Obama, April 2, 2008

Barack Obama has made it clear – he believes gun owners are dangerous and that guns should be banned. If he is elected President, he could name new Supreme Court Justices who will try to overturn the recent court decision and strip our rights away.

I like the good photos they posted of the Democratic Presidential Candidate:

‘Safe Neighborhoods’ Act Under Attack

justiceThe claim is that it will attract ‘ultra-conservatives’ to the polls.

Question: Shouldn’t everybody be allowed to vote regardless of their position on the political spectrum? As usual, Democrats don’t think so.

Another question: Won’t having Barack Obama on the ballot attract ultra-liberals, socialists and communists to the polls? That can’t be stopped either.

The votes will cancel each other. However the rest of us ‘normal’ voters will likely support this measure. And that’s what the Democrats fear.

Democrats oppose the initiative that is likely to appear on the November, 2008 California ballot. The proposed initiative has been submitted to the office of the secretary of state with the necessary number of signatures.

Opponents of the “Safe Neighborhoods” act are attempting to spin the issue as targeting Latinos and African Americans, while completely ignoring the intent of the bill, which is to punish criminals. Moreover, they fear that this initiative will attract ‘ultra-conservatives’ to the polls, thereby crippling Democrats on the November ballot. One opponent said “This is about saying ‘boo’ to the people of California.”

It’s violent criminals that say ‘boo’ to the people.

Supporters of the measure say that it is as much about education and prevention as it is about punitive actions. The measure would punish ex-cons carrying loaded or concealed guns in public with new, 10-year terms. It would expand the “10-20-life” law to accomplices as well as actual shooters in crimes where guns are brandished, fired or injure people when shot.

Note that many law enforcement agencies statewide and all 58 county sheriffs support the initiative.

Outraged

As a veteran, I am outraged by Time Magazine’s desecration of Joe Rosenthal’s famous photograph of the U.S. Marines raising the American Flag on Iwo Jima.

outrageWe never cease to be amazed by the inability of the left to feel shame and its lack of reverence for America and those who defend its freedoms, including the right to be stupid. The cover of the April 21 issue of Time, taking the famous Joe Rosenthal photo of Marines planting our flag on the blood-soaked island of Iwo Jima and replacing our flag with a tree, qualifies for obscenity of the year.

It echoes the greenie theme first advanced by Al Gore in his book Earth In The Balance that the internal combustion engine is the greatest threat in the history of mankind. Gore and Bill Clinton have both said that global warming is ultimately a greater threat than terrorism… This trivializing of the sacrifice of American blood and treasure to defend freedom ignores the fact that in World War II we faced a real enemy with a terrible agenda. The bombs that fell on Pearl Harbor were quite real, not the output of some badly fed computer model.

‘Global warming may or may not be a significant threat to the United States,’ Tim Holbert, a spokesman for the American Veterans Center, [said]: ‘The Japanese Empire on February 1945, however, certainly was, and this photo trivializes the most recognizable moment of one of the bloodiest battles in U.S. history’.”

I call on veterans and others outraged by this to boycott Time-Warner Corporation! If you subscribe to Road Runner, get another high-speed carrier. If you get cable from Time-Warner, it’s time to look into DirecTV, which, by the way, is owned by the parent company of the Fox News Channel. Most of all, never, ever buy another copy of Time.
