Spiffy Google Gadget

Jim Geraghty at NRO’s Campaign Spot forwards this interesting Election Year Dynamic Trend Map from Google:

This shows states senate race trending at the present time. The redder a state is the better for Republican candidates, the bluer states go to Democrats and yellow is a toss-up as of today.

You can change the mode to senate, house or governor races. You can also change the source of polling (limited to a few liberal sources).

Try it yourself.

As Geraghty says, “If your map just keeps getting redder and redder, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s broken.”

Voters In Maricopa County Get It

maricopa-county.pngMaricopa County, which includes the Phoenix Metro area, extends far enough North to include Wickenburg which is where our new home will be. The statistics below show a significant shift to the right, probably because of the county’s voters collective disgust with The administration and Congress in D.C. and approval of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer‘s Constitutional gun and immigration enforcement policies.

From the Campaign Spot:

A Sudden Shift in Maricopa County Voter Registration

By Jim Geraghty

This June in Arizona’s Maricopa County, 227 voters switched from no affiliation or some other party to the Democratic party. This includes 44 former registered Republicans.

Another 211 voters switched to “independent”; this total included 55 Democrats and 69 Republicans.

Another 217 left the Democratic party to become “Party Not Designated.”

And 530 joined the Republican party, including 190 former registered Democrats and 252 who were “Party Not Designated.”

Emphasis added.

The End of the Specter Dynasty

Buh-bye Arlen . . . sixth term, my @$$.

The AP posted some raw video of the two Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania. In it, you can clearly see character strengths and flaws between the two candidates, Arlen Specter and Joe Sestak. After all the kabuki dancing Specter did when he saw that he would lose to Pat Toomey, he suddenly switched from R to D. James Taranto who posts the daily WSJ column, would often mention Specter thus: Arlen Specter (R2D2 – PA).

We’re on record for strongly disapproving career politicians and are, frankly, glad to see Specter lose in tonight’s PA Democratic primary election. Given the charisma that Joe Sestak seems to evoke, we’re a bit worried that Pat Toomey may not win in November. I hope we’re wrong.

Miss Him Yet?

We never stopped missing Ronald Reagan. Via Captain Ed Morrissey on Hot Air.

“Welfare is another of our major problems. We are a humane and generous people and we accept without reservation our obligation to help the aged, disabled, and those unfortunates who, through no fault of their own, must depend on their fellow man. But we are not going to perpetuate poverty by substituting a permanent dole for a paycheck. There is no humanity or charity in destroying self-reliance, dignity, and self-respect … the very substance of moral fiber.” — Ronald Reagan
