Cleanliness is next to Gunliness

OK – pardon the paraphrase, but after a shoot, we religiously lay out our equipment for cleaning and maintenance. On nice days, we do this outside on the patio swing. Here, you see the guns we shot today. The handguns on the left, from top to bottom, are S&W 908 9mm pistol, Glock 26 9mm pistol, S&W 686 .357 magnum revolver and S&W 442 .38 special revolver. The shotguns are both Remington 870s – one a synthetic 7-round capacity 12 gauge and the other is a youth 20 gauge 5 round capacity.

After all the cleaning was done, the guns, now clean and lubricated, were put into their secure containers until next week at the range. All of them, that is, except for a personal firearm that we each keep close at hand.

NRA on C-SPAN Now!

From Wayne LaPierre, NRA Exec. VP:

Dear Fellow NRA Member,
cav_logo.gif

On Friday, September 21, from 8:30-5:00, NRA is holding its Celebration of American Values at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C. The event is being covered live by C-SPAN. Please be sure to watch this important presentation. Also, please be sure to call C-SPAN immediately and tell the station that you’re enjoying the coverage so that they’ll continue to carry this and other NRA events. Please, also be sure to be on the lookout for news reports of this important event on other major networks. Thank you very much.

I presume that those times are Eastern. I don’t have TV access where I am now, so I will get Damsel to check my theory.

Update: Damsel reported that both C-SPAN channels on DirecTV were showing content other than the NRA.

Hot Shots

Whew! When we got to the range last weekend, the cooling fan wasn’t keeping up with the elevated temperatures outside. Good thing we dressed in tank tops to help us cope with the heat.

California and the West have been having a heat wave. We usually have a warm spell toward the end of summer, and this year is no exception. Don’t worry, this has been happening for the last 60 or so years that I recall as a California native (second generation), and has nothing to do with mythical anthropogenic climate change.

Shooting was a lot of fun in spite of the temperatures in the range. We each brought our little guns – Damsel’s S&W 442 and my Glock 26 – the regular hand guns – the S&W 686 revolver and the S&W 908s pistol – and all three shotguns with wooden stocks – my 40-year old Ithaca, and both our Remington 870s. The video is us emptying the 870s 5-round capacity magazines.

The 2 by 3 paper target did not do so well.

Glock 18 in Full-Auto Mode

big-magazine.jpgLast week when I took possession of my new Glock 26, I ran across this YouTube® video while looking at another video showing how to field strip my new pistol. The Glock 18 video shows this dude, “DangerousBob,” putting 298 rounds through a Glock 18 in fully automatic mode. His assistant feeds him a number of 33-round magazines which he empties in a second or two. The last magazine he empties is a very-high-capacity drum-type which takes him a few more seconds to exhaust.

It looks like it would be fun, but alas, our California politician moonbats won’t let us have cool toys like this.

Four Truths About Gun Laws

newspaper.gifI ran across this yesterday as I was checking out the news feeds. Embedded in the article “Media Aim at Gun Rights with Loaded Coverage” published by CNS News, is this description of four things that the media fail to present when covering issues involving the second amendment.

From CNS News:

» Comparisons between countries are not useful. Unfortunately, direct comparisons based solely on crime rates and gun laws tell very little about whether gun control actually works. Social scientists believe that gun control is only one of many factors that influence rates of violence.

» Guns are frequently used to stop crimes. To the Founding Fathers, the right to bear arms for self-protection was essential if citizens were to be truly free, but this essential fact rarely saw the light of day in the mainstream media.

» Most guns used in crimes are illegally acquired. Like it or not, banning guns only takes them out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, making it easier for people with no respect for the law to attack their victims.

» Gun control laws have no proven effect. At worst, gun control laws leave law-abiding citizens defenseless before rapacious criminals, and at best, they may not affect violence at all.”

If your objective is to stop gun crime, then these four facts must be considered. If your objective is to take guns away from law-abiding citizens, then these facts will be ignored. Clearly, the big media’s objective is the latter.

Guns and Ammo Day Tomorrow August 28th

Counter to the gun-grabbing Brady Campaign’s National Day of Protest, we’re posting our latest “On the Range” video to encourage gun enthusiasts to buy guns and/or ammunition tomorrow August 28th.

War on Guns posted an article calling for a blog swarm on this last week. In the article, David links to The Firearms Coalition who are calling for National Exercise Your Rights Day. It seems that not only are the Bradys protesting tomorrow, but also the Jesse Jackson lemmings.

So, show your support for your second-amendment rights. Check out our video and see how much fun we’re having with our guns at the local firing range. Then, tomorrow, go out and buy a gun or some ammo or some reloading supplies or any combination of those, and encourage the Brady Campaign to notice that 66 percent of Americans are against new gun laws.

From NRA-ILA:

A recent Zogby International poll question conducted for Associated Television News found that 66% of the American voting public in a recent poll of 1,020 Americans from August 8-11, 2007 (margin of error of +/- 3.1%) found that the American public rejects the notion that new gun control laws are needed.

The Wait is OVER!

Yesterday, the 10-day harassment ended and I took possession of our new Glock 26 subcompact pistol. We went into the range and put about 30 rounds through the new gun. I found the gun to be smooth and easy to use. When we were finished, I took the pistol home and practiced field stripping it – we’re going to the range again this weekend and I will clean it up after that.

stripped-glock-26I found a very good YouTube® video demonstrating how to field strip the Glock 26. This gun is much easier to disassemble and reassemble than our S&W 908 9mm pistols. Using the video as a guide, I was able to strip the gun and put it back together in under 30 seconds – without hurrying. In the image at the left you can see the gun’s component parts after field stripping – the barrel, recoil spring assembly, slide assembly, frame and the stock 10-round magazine.
