Enemies of the “Long War”

After the overnight disclosure of another major incident involving Islamic Terrorists, Peter Brookes, writing in The Corner on National Review Online shares some thoughts about our enemies in the Global War on Terror (emphasis added):

London Thoughts [Peter Brookes]

1. We have two enemies in the war on terror: al Qaeda and complacency. The “Long War” is clearly far from over.
2. The fact that the London group may have had “some” ties to al Qaeda proves that al Qaeda is as much—if not more—a virulent, vicious ideology as a terror group.
3. Good, actionable intelligence—both foreign, like tracking financial transactions, and domestic, like the terrorist surveillance program —is still our first line of defense.
4. Al Qaeda—and its acolytes—are continually evolving (e.g. the use of liquid explosives to bring down planes), meaning we have to be as imaginative and nimble in our defense as they are in their offense. Of course, taking the fight to the terrorists is our best defense.
5. International cooperation—as exemplified by US-UK cooperation this time—is a force multiplier in the war on terror.
6. This may not be the last of terror plots meant to occur on or near the fifth anniversary of 9/11…

Americans and Europeans alike, should wake up and realize that the seething hatred will not just go away if we ignore it or coddle it. We, collectively, just don’t get it; Islamic terrorists, like the title cyborg in “The Terminator,” will not go away until the throats of the last infidels have been cut. Infidels — that’s us! All of us – Moms, Dads, Kids, liberals, conservatives, and all you middle-of-the-road complacent folks.

As Brookes says, we must take the fight to the terrorists — preemption beats cleaning up after a lapse of vigilance. Start profiling now. Purge terrorist cells from America now. Just do it!

Marine Hovercraft Ferry Firefighters

UPDATE: (May 11, 2007) Catalina Fire Pictures Here.

Firefighters responding to a brush fire on Catalina Island get a lift from the US Marine Corps:

Firefighters struggle with Catalina Island brush fire

A stubborn lightning-sparked brush fire that has charred hundreds of acres since Saturday night on Catalina Island was 50 percent contained Monday, but authorities said full containment will not come today as crews had hoped.

Full containment is now expected sometime Thursday, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Sam Padilla.

Lightning ignited two fires in the central part of the 76-square-mile island shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, Padilla said. One of those fires was contained a short time later at about 130 acres.

[. . .]

Marines from Camp Pendleton ferried Los Angeles County firefighters to the island in four hovercraft Sunday to assist the Avalon Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Ed Pickett said.

The hovercraft were used because severe lightning made helicopter travel dangerous.

This is another example of how versatile and vital our military is to our nation.

A Win for Kim

As I predicted in a previous article, the UN resolution passed today to censure North Korea had no teeth in it and in “record time” (according to US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton), was rejected by the North Korean delegate. Nothing — NOTHING — will get the attention of Kim Jong Il short of vaporizing his missiles and the launch and engineering facilities — nothing short of that.

Once again the UN proves itself to be completely useless.

Missing from the Media

I’ll bet that NONE of the mainstream media will publish emerging evidence that the events that took place at Haditha, Iraq involving the U. S. Marines have been highly distorted by both the media and partisan Democrats, Jack Murtha, in particular.

In the aftermath of the brutal mutilation and murder of two U. S. Soldiers, the terrorists responsible for these atrocities have been tracked down by the Military. Why is this largely overlooked by the press?

From CENTCOM: Press Releases – COALITION FORCES TRACK DOWN TERRORISTS RESPONSIBLE…

Where was the press when the Clinton Administration sat around and did little in the aftermath of the Khobar Towers terrorist attack that killed 19 U. S. Airmen and wounded scores of others?

From Opinion Journal: Khobar Towers

And finally, did you know that the Bush Administration never rejected the Kyoto Accords? Did you know it was unanimously rejected by the U. S. Senate when Bill Clinton was still in the White House? Probably not — the press was too busy demonizing Ken Starr for investigating presidential philandering.

How can you possibly trust the major media when these important facts are largely ignored by them?

Coalition Forces Kill Al Zarqawi

VIDEO UPDATE: Little Green FootballsCandygram for Zarqawi

Maybe this is only symbolic since there is almost certainly going to be another Zarqawi terror clone, but it’s good news for the Military and for progress in the war on terror. It looks like cooperation between Iraqi security forces and the Coalition is finally starting to kick in.

From CENTCOM:

ZARQAWI DEAD

Coalition forces kill Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Multi-National Force-Iraq Commanding General, Gen. George W. Casey Jr., announced the death of al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi in the following statement during a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad June 8:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, Coalition forces killed al-Qaida terrorist leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi and one of his key lieutenants, spiritual advisor Sheik Abd-Al-Rahman, yesterday, June 7, at 6:15 p.m. in an air strike against an identified, isolated safe house.

“Tips and intelligence from Iraqi senior leaders from his network led forces to al-Zarqawi and some of his associates who were conducting a meeting approximately eight kilometers north of Baqubah when the air strike was launched.

“Iraqi police were first on the scene after the air strike, and elements of Multi-National Division – North, arrived shortly thereafter. Coalition forces were able to identify al-Zarqawi by fingerprint verification, facial recognition and known scars.”

Hot Damn! The only good terrorist is a DEAD terrorist!

UPDATE Excerpt from President Bush’s statement this morning:

“Now Zarqawi has met his end, and this violent man will never murder again. Iraqis can be justly proud of their new government and its early steps to improve their security. And Americans can be enormously proud of the men and women of our armed forces, who worked tirelessly with their Iraqi counterparts to track down this brutal terrorist and put him out of business.”
. . .

“We have tough days ahead of us in Iraq that will require the continued patience of the American people. Yet the developments of the last 24 hours give us renewed confidence in the final outcome of this struggle: the defeat of terrorism threats, and a more peaceful world for our children and grandchildren. ”
