Goodbye Pride of Barbados

red-sunset.jpgWe said goodbye to my favorite flowers, the Pride of Barbados a.k.a. Red Bird of Paradise last night. We stopped at the Arizona border last night to rest before driving home today after a very productive visit to our new home.

This picture was snapped just as the sun set in the west at Ehrenberg, AZ. By the time we return to Arizona, these flowers will be gone until next spring when they will again be as beautiful. The next pictures I post of these beautiful flowers, I hope, will be taken in my new rock garden at our new Arizona house. Click on the image to enlarge.

RV Access Panorama

We asked our contractor to clear a pathway so that when we get our RV we can have pull-thru access. I have a problem with trying to back a large vehicle (trailer/5th wheel/class A) up or downhill, so we asked for the pull-thru access.

In the panoramic image below on the left side, you can see the rough exit access. The RV will enter the driveway on the right side and pull behind the house where there will be full hookups (30 Amp AC, hose bib, sewer) on the left side. Click on the image to enlarge.

We only needed the RV space for storage of the one we may eventually get. We wouldn’t necessarily need the hookups but if we get visitors who come in an RV, we wanted them to have the option to stay in their rig. We will pull ours down the exit access enough to allow our visitors to pull behind the house. When they are ready to leave, we will pull our rig down on the roadway and back up the driveway and into the RV spot as they pull out.

Shopping For Granite

granite-slabs.jpgWe’re having our house custom built and with all new fixtures and furnishings. I told Damsel that she would have the flexibility to select whatever she liked. One of her wishes is to have granite counter tops in the kitchen and both bathrooms.

Our contractor recommended a tile and granite place in Glendale, AZ, so we went there and started the process for the custom granite counter tops. Part of the process is to select the exact slabs of granite to use. To do that, we had to drive a few miles to a place that has a warehouse full of granite slabs.

Damsel and I walked up and down aisles and aisles of the huge slabs looking for the right colors and patterns of the natural granite to suit her taste. Finally, we both liked the slabs pictured above and decided to place the order. Click on the image to enlarge.

The next step is our contractor will furnish the specific dimensions and we will select the finish for the edges of the counter tops. We’re making a lot of progress on the new house this week.

Dead Fish Rahm

Ramirez’ response to Emanuel’s disgusting dead fish tantrum . . .

dead-fish.jpg

(Emanuel) Has been known to send out cheesecakes from Eli’s Bakery in Chicago to campaign donors and the many Democratic candidates he has recruited over the years. Once, when a pollster made him angry, Emanuel sent him a dead fish.

Back in Arizona

igo.gifWe’re in Arizona this week doing chores for the new house, so blogging will be light. We did not post yesterday because someone (maybe it was me) forgot to pack up the AC power converter/charger for the laptop. Damsel had hers with her but it isn’t compatible with my laptop. Since the battery only lasts about two hours (even with the low power settings), I budgeted the time for downloading Damsel’s photos and updating the money program.

Today, we drove to Surprise, AZ to a Radio Shack store to pick up a universal AC supply manufactured by iGo (seen at right). While we were in the store, I made them open up the package and demonstrate that it was equivalent to the charger I inadvertently left in California. Bottom line is that we’re good to go.

We observed good progress on our new Arizona house. You can see it on the other blog.
