Damsel Sends You Holly Hill House

From Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, California:

The charming Queen Anne style cottage on the bluff over looking Avalon Bay has been a local landmark since 1890. The third oldest house in Avalon, its history mirrors that of the town. The house has always been a private residence and the current owner has restored it and furnished it with turn-of-the-century antiques.

Is the story true that the builder/owner of the Holly Hill House refused to let women on the property after his bride-to-be jilted him, because she didn’t want to live in such an isolated place?

Lookout Cot (later Holly Hill House) was built in 1890 as a private residence by Peter Gano, a retired engineer from Pasadena. His sister was to come live with him, but she never did. He did allow women on the property.

Take a Trip to the Moon

OK – Fire up your Quicktime® Players and take a trip to the Moon with NASA.

Before the end of the next decade, NASA astronauts will again explore the surface of the moon. And this time, we’re going to stay, building outposts and paving the way for eventual journeys to Mars and beyond. There are echoes of the iconic images of the past, but it won’t be your grandfather’s moon shot.

This journey begins soon, with development of a new spaceship. Building on the best of Apollo and shuttle technology, NASA’s creating a 21st century exploration system that will be affordable, reliable, versatile, and safe.

The centerpiece of this system is a new spacecraft designed to carry four astronauts to and from the moon, support up to six crewmembers on future missions to Mars, and deliver crew and supplies to the International Space Station.

The new crew vehicle will be shaped like an Apollo capsule, but it will be three times larger, allowing four astronauts to travel to the moon at a time.

This is very cool.

MSM Recklessly Endangers National Security

Republican Congressional Leadership calls for investigation of leaks to the media. The Associated Press and Washington Post (among many others) recklessly release sensitive information in hopes to defame the Bush Administration and undermine the War on Terror.

From FOXNews.com:

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and House Speaker Dennis Hastert on Tuesday called for a congressional leak investigation into who told the news media about previously undisclosed U.S. interrogation centers abroad.

“If accurate, such an egregious disclosure could have long-term and far-reaching damaging and dangerous consequences, and will imperil our efforts to protect the American people and our homeland from terrorist attacks,” Frist and Hastert said in a letter.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the request to Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts of Kansas and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Peter Hoekstra of Michigan.

The Washington Post reported a week ago on the existence of secret U.S. prisons in Eastern Europe for terrorism suspects. The Bush administration has neither confirmed nor denied that report.

Frist and Hastert said the joint probe by the House and Senate intelligence committees should determine who leaked the information and under what authority.

“What is the actual and potential damage done to the national security of the United States and our partners in the global war on terror?” the letter asked. “We will consider other changes to this mandate based on your recommendations.”

This is yet another media tactic designed to defame the administration without regard to the damage that can be done to national Security. The leak of this information should be considered treasonous; the MSM participation in the leak should equally be considered an act of treachery toward the country.

Burn Baby Burn

We remember the 1965 Watts riots here in the Los Angeles area, as well as the 1992 riots after the Simi Valley verdict in the Rodney King case. We know that it doesn’t take much to set off these types of insurrections, and fear that what is happening in Europe could occur here. Not only in Los Angeles, but anywhere the tinderbox of radical unrest can be ignited.

Just how long will it be before radical, borderline miscreants resume burning and killing in the US? Hopefully not ever, providing we resist giving out the kinds of entitlements to immigrants that Europeans (and the French in particular) that attract the worst elements of humanity.

We also believe that the problems in Europe are not totally spontaneous, but the manifestation of the hatred of western peoples by middle easterners as incited by Al Qaeda and their sympathetic radicals.

Owens Won’t Return to Eagles

I applaud Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid for sacking hot-shitshot Terrell Owens for his on-going bad attitude and behavior.

From FOXNews.com – Reid: Owens Won’t Return to Eagles

PHILADELPHIA — Terrell Owens can take his touchdowns and dance somewhere else.

The tempestuous star receiver won’t return to the Philadelphia Eagles this season — or probably ever — because of “a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time,” coach Andy Reid said Monday.

Owens was suspended for Sunday night’s 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games without pay. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate him for the rest of the season.

It’s about time – the gutless San Francisco 49ers staff let Owens’ bad antics go on for years.

Reid said the outspoken player “had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions.”

“We gave Terrell every opportunity to avoid this outcome,” he said.

Owens was suspended Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed “a lack of class” for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch in a game on Oct. 23. In the same interview with ESPN.com on Thursday, Owens said the Eagles would be better off with Green Bay’s Brett Favre at quarterback instead of Donovan McNabb.

The NFL in general should take a critical look at deteriorating sportsmanship in the league. Every week lately, Damsel and I are appalled at the shenanigans and antics performed by many so-called professional athletes.

Update: As you might expect, the NFL Players Union has filed a grievance in the Owens case. This is just another example of organized labor taking the wrong side of an issue; instead of demanding excellence, they condone bad behavior.

Lazy NFL Sunday

Well, not exactly altogether lazy – I mowed the lawn. But since the weather was less than spectacular, Damsel and I stayed inside most of the day watching the games and cooking Chicken Kiev with rice pilaf. The food was excellent and somewhat comforting in that none of our favorite teams did for shit and the weather was sucky.

TV’s left to right: Raiders vs. Chiefs, Dolphins vs. Falcons, Chargers vs. Jets and Lions vs. Vikings.

We were also entertained by listening as our phonebot took a dozen or so political phone spam messages. We’ll be glad when the election is over.
