Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock . . .

glock-26.gifThat’s the sound of the ridiculous 10-day California waiting-period clock when you purchase a firearm. Background checks are practically instantaneous these days and the database for determining the suitability of a gun purchaser is virtually available twenty-four/seven.

Knowing that it takes far less than ten days to get this information can only mean that the ultra-liberal California nanny-state legislature is targeting the legitimate firearms enthusiast with a punitive delay harassment. I’m sure the underground firearms trade in the state have no such rules. Who is actually getting punished? Law-abiding gun purchasers and dealers! What a bunch of crap!

OK – there now that I’ve got that off my chest, I’m pleased to report that there are now less than the original 864,000 waiting period ticks left until I take possession of my newly-purchased (but yet to be acquired) Glock 26 9mm subcompact pistol. Ever since Damsel got her pocket-sized shooter, I’ve had a hankering for a little pistol. Last week, we took one of these for a test drive and liked it, so today we made the deal and started the wait. Click on the thumbnail above for a larger view of this neat little gun.

Respectable Woman

Our weekly trip to the range consisted of the usual faire; a couple of our .38 caliber revolvers, a 9mm pistol and our 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. This week, we borrowed a Glock 26 9mm pistol from the range for a ‘test drive’ since we’re thinking about adding one to our collection.

I shot some video of Damsel when she was firing her 20 gauge and, later, when we were trying out the 9mm Glock. This reminded me of a cubicle placard that Damsel used to have – it said,

“I am a respectable business woman – do not [screw] with me.”

So I went with that thought and put this video together.

The Wait is Over!

my baby gunAnd I now have taken possession of my new best little friend. After the long wait and finally taking delivery, I went into the range and promptly put 50 rounds through this little beauty. Not only did I put the rounds through the gun barrel, they actually managed to go through the target at (more or less) where I was aiming. She’s got quite a kick for a little lady, but I just love shooting this lightweight, compact firearm. When I slip her into my pocket she disappears from view, and you would never know she was there — until I whip her out. No hammer to catch on my holster or pocket either. She’s ready in a flash!

Waiting Again — S&W 442 .38 Caliber Revolver

The 10-day countdown is underway. This nice little revolver is lightweight, cute and will be my new best friend as soon as I take possession. I hate California gun laws. I passed their silly test twice before. I want my new toy. It’s paid for, I should have it NOW!

Holiday Shooting

forty-fiveSince most of the cooking yesterday was in the crock pot, we found ourselves with a little time on our hands. We decided to go to the range and rent one of their .45 caliber Springfield 1911 pistols. We bought a hundred rounds of ammunition, got a couple of silhouette targets and went out to a booth to shoot.

We found out a couple of things about the pistol; it had a kick only a little greater than our 9mm pistols and we each got hit by ejected brass since the casings seemed to fly out in semi-random directions.

All in all, it was fun though and we got a taste of shooting the larger caliber.

Widget Work

Last week, I saw a poster at Sharp as a Marble that inspired me to tackle a new sidebar widget project for our blog. It is a work-in-progress at this point, and I hope that I can get some suggestions and advice from those of you with an interest in this.

The idea is to pose the question of how you are prepared to cope with ever-increasing violence in suburban areas in light of the ever-decreasing police coverage and, of course, the constant attacks on your Second Amendment rights. We previously posted an article about how the police are spread too thin to protect everyone.

So have at it. Don’t hesitate to criticize what you see because it’s still an unfinished product. Consider what story you would like to tell with it and suggest away. As an extra incentive, I am willing to provide the resulting sidebar widget to anyone who is willing to help out.

The resulting product will be a Flash™ animated widget that fits in the sidebar or just about anywhere else on your web page. You can use the raw file or I will provide scripting to make it compatible with most browsers.
