Worse Than Black Friday – The Gun Show

Damsel and I attempted to go to the Gun Show today. We got as far as the parking lot at the fairgrounds when we noticed a HUGE throng waiting in what appeared to be an hour-long line to get into the show. Clearly, the Obama elect effect is in evidence here today.

waiting

We mutually decided that the wait, plus what would obviously be overcrowding inside, would not be a good investment in our time nor in the wear and tear on the nerves. We executed a missed approach and headed back to home base.

I ordered everything that we had on our gun show wish list (except ammo, of course – %&*?!@ California laws) from on-line sources when we got home. I found some good deals on the shooting accessories and cleaning items we needed.

In a while, I’m going to fire up the BBQ and crank out a couple of Beef Tenderloin Steaks for the main meal today. I’m nursing a Samuel Adams as I write this and Damsel is sipping some Chardonnay – our attitude adjustments are in progress.

Two Classics

two-classics.jpgWe stopped at the Point Vicente Lighthouse today for their monthly open house. We didn’t intend to stop, but we saw this beautifully restored 1947 Pontiac station wagon on the road, and the driver pulled into the lighthouse station. We were compelled to follow him in – I just can’t resist a good photo op. Minstrel has some details about the station wagon – A Classic 1947 Pontiac ‘Woody.’

The Point Vicente Lighthouse is an important landmark and beacon light relied on by thousands of ships and pleasure craft. It provides a means of fixing their position, and ensuring their safe passage up and down the coast. The Point Vicente Light Station has been guiding sailing vessels to and from the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbors since March 1926. It was first operated and maintained by the United States Lighthouse Service for 13 years prior to the service being merged with the U.S. Coast Guard, which was delegated all aid-to-navigation responsibilities in 1939. The lighthouse was manned until 1971 when it was automated by a remote electronic aids-to-navigation monitoring system.

Wikipedia has details about this classic lighthouse here.

A Pretty Pelican

I took so many pictures at the seashore over the past couple of beautiful weekends here in SoCal. I keep finding many that I want to share at the peril of looking like “The Seaside Channel.” Anyhow, this one of yet another California Brown Pelican in flight along the cliffs caught the details of the underside of these beautiful birds. Our Favorite Hotel Room

We have mentioned before on our blog that we try to book the same hotel room when we go to Avalon for our anniversary. This is a photo of the actual room. We spent our wedding night here and several of the anniversaries too. A feature not shown in this view off-camera to the right is a lovely whirlpool Jacuzzi tub-for-two. This year, the room had a face lift from shabby-chic to this modern style.

I threw a little Flash™ code together to get this image to pan back and forth.

At the California Coastline Today

It was another nice day here today, so we made the trip to the Palos Verdes Peninsula to see what we could see. I picked several of Damsel’s photos and made this little slideshow. Enjoy.
