Pandemic Fears Benefit Catalina Island Tourism

Avalon HarborCruise ships normally destined for sunny Mexico are diverting to Santa Catalina Island to avoid possible exposure to the Swine Influenza Virus at Mexican ports like Ensenada and Puerto Vallarta. Cruise ship traffic to the island is normally three to five ships a week, depending on the season.

Through May, the island now expects 25 cruise ship calls, possibly more. With one ship in the harbor, it is our personal experience that the foot traffic in town and the island’s attractions become quite busy. Now, according to the Catalina Island Company, there are likely to be several more instances of two ships in the harbor at the same time.

Our anniversary is in September and, as usual, we’re booked in to the Hotel Metropole. We hope that the rush is over by then.

Pink Stuff

We drove to visit my Mom and Dad today. My sister was also visiting. We decided to share some of our photos and got out our laptops. She also has a pink laptop and a little pink camera. It’s a girl thing.

I stacked them all up and took this group picture. Pretty! Clickie biggie.

Spring Succulents

If you read this weblog, then you know how much I love spring. It’s the time of the year when flowers are seemingly everywhere and my SLR camera is seemingly busier than usual. Today, this ‘Peanut Cactus’ was the perfect succulent subject for the camera with its seemingly too red flowers.

A Pink Daisy

Some of the flowers in the bouquet we brought home last weekend are still beautiful. The bouquet was prepared with a pink and purple color theme. This is a subtle pink compared to the hot pink from another flower from the same bouquet. There was also a purple rose, but it wilted a day or two ago. Click on the image to enlarge.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Midweek Range Review

This is a reprise to the shooting session at our range last Sunday. Midweek seems like a good time to pick out a video (I take several each session) and post it here.

The videos come in handy for a couple of reasons. One purpose is to critique our form and style, another is to document anomalies and a third is to post here on our blog for our mutual amusement.

This is one of Damsel’s several runs on the bullseye target with her Warthog. We scored some ‘bargain’ .45 ammunition last weekend, so we took the big caliber pistols to the range.

She loves this little Warthog. It’s been performing quite well as of late, and so is her shooting.

Cylinder Appeal

Our S&W 686 guns clean up real purdy. I took this photo after cleaning up the revolver that we shot at Sunday’s practice. Clickie Biggie.
