Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx Californianus)
This roadrunner was standing on the hill next to the road just east of our driveway while we were out walking the dogs earlier today. He stood and posed while I took a couple of photos with my little Canon A710 IS pocket camera. I generally carry the camera just for photo ops like this. Click on the image to enlarge.
According to Wikipedia:
The Greater Roadrunner, taxonomically classified as Geococcyx californianus, meaning “Californian Earth-cuckoo,” is a long-legged bird in the cuckoo family, Cuculidae. Along with the Lesser Roadrunner, it is one of two species in the roadrunner genus Geococcyx. This roadrunner is also known as the chaparral cock, ground cuckoo, and snake killer.
Christmas Courtyard Sentries
I’ll be getting the Christmas decorations up a little at a time as the holidays approach. Today, I placed the traditional Christmas “nutcracker” sentries and a wreath at the entrance to the courtyard. Click on the image to enlarge.
Goldfinch in a Mesquite Tree

Christmas Wreath
Now that the Thanksgiving holiday has passed, it’s time to begin decorating for the Christmas holiday. This is my chili pepper wreath, now hanging on the bedroom door facing the great room. Click on the image to enlarge.
Bishop’s Cap Flower
Not much to post about following Thanksgiving but this nice flower opened on the bishop’s cap barrel cactus in the courtyard. We still are having second spring here. 80° and blue skies. We’re all wearing shorts like it’s summer. 🙂 Click on the image to enlarge.
