Daffodils

Daffodils

We had a rather un-spring like day today, but it felt like spring in the flower vase in the little bathroom. I bought these lovely daffodils while grocery shopping on Thursday. How pretty! Click on the image to enlarge.

Cactus Hillbilly

Damsel took this photo of me during an excursion to the “unimproved” part of our lot. I was up there taking pictures of some of the cacti. Some of them I want to remove, like the several Christmas cacti, which shed their red berries that can roll down to the RV drive and endanger dogs and humans with their spikes and glochids. Other cacti, like a couple of hedgehogs up there, I would like to transplant to the lower yard where their flowers can be appreciated. Click on the image to enlarge.

Hummingbird Happy Hour

Hummingbird Happy Hour

Last evening, several javelina (collared peccaries) wandered into the back yard, so I grabbed my camera and went out on the RV drive to take some pix of them. Suddenly, a hummingbird came to the feeder just a few feet from where I was standing. It sipped and hovered there for about thirty seconds. I took a bunch of shots of it and this one turned out pretty good. Click on the image to enlarge.

I’ll post photos of the javelina later.

Paperwhite Flowers

Paperwhite Flowers

Several Weeks ago, I planted some paperwhite bulbs in a shallow garden box in the courtyard. In spite of being outdoors and exposed to cooler wintertime temperatures, they are now happily producing these tiny white flowers. Click on the image to enlarge.

Here is a factoid I found at a commercial bulb vendors website:

The paperwhite narcissus, a relative of daffodils and jonquils, is easy to grow and produces small, fragrant flowers on 12 to 18-inch stalks. Most paperwhites have pure white blooms, but yellow varieties are also available.

Akito Roses from Colombia

Akito Roses

We did our weekly grocery shopping this morning. The flower concession didn’t have my favorite Asian lilies, so I got a dozen Akito roses. The package said they were grown in Colombia. I also got some tiny pink flowers to accent the roses. Click on the image to enlarge.
