Flashback – The Dahlia Show

We attended a dahlia show at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Torrance, California in August of 2009. We were browsing through some of the old animated slideshows and thought that this one would be welcome in the wintertime when dahlias are dormant.

Orange Gerbera Daisy

Now that the Christmas decorations are all taken down and put away until next year, I needed something bright and cheerful in the great room vase. So, I bought a handful of some yellow and orange Gerbera daisies and some white tulips. They look very nice in the vase. Click on the image to enlarge.

Bishop’s Cap Flower

Bishop’s Cap Flower

Not much to post about following Thanksgiving but this nice flower opened on the bishop’s cap barrel cactus in the courtyard. We still are having second spring here. 80° and blue skies. We’re all wearing shorts like it’s summer. 🙂 Click on the image to enlarge.

Asiatic Lilies

I hope everyone enjoys the Veteran’s Day weekend.

I decorated our great room vase with some very pretty Asiatic lilies yesterday. We’re enjoying these colorful and fragrant flowers. Click on the image to enlarge.

Gerbera Daisies

Today was grocery shopping day and, as usual, I bought some flowers for the vase in the great room. These colorful Gerbera daisies bring home some of the fall flower colors to the house. Click on the image to enlarge.

Second Spring Cactus Flowers

Thimble Cactus Flowers

These tiny flowers appeared on my thimble cactus today. They are pale yellow and only a quarter of an inch across. This is one of the cacti we brought from California and is doing very well here in Arizona. I guess they like our “second spring” that occurs in late October and early November.
