Home Again

Ancient Petroglyphs

It’s good to be back home after the whirlwind trip to California and back. We’re going to sleep good tonight.

Most of the trip, we’re on Interstate highways or California freeways, but when we get to US 60 on I-10, we drop off of the concrete monsters and head across the “Arizona Outback.” The last hundred miles or so before we are home, is some of the most interesting scenery. One very interesting landmark is this rock with ancient petroglyphs immediately off of the road between Hope and Harcuvar, AZ. We didn’t even slow down as I took this photo from the truck as we passed by. Click on the image to enlarge.

Another Milestone has passed and Damsel and I are celebrating my birthday. We wanted to continue our tradition of being on the road for this occasion, but circumstances preclude that. As soon as we clear up some personal matters this summer, we hope to be able to hit the road again.

Also. Happy Birthday to Tin Can Assassin.

A Desert Teepee

A Desert Teepee

Yesterday, on our way to the Phoenix Metro Area (a doctor thing), we passed this rustic teepee right along US 60 just southeast of Morristown, AZ. We have passed this landmark many, many times on our occasional commute to the valley and I’ve taken almost that many photos of the teepee, but yesterday’s shot cropped into this nice, well lighted view of it. I think since we were a couple of hours earlier into the day, that the sun was in a good place for this shot. Click on the image to enlarge.

Belated Mother’s Day Gifts

Colorful Bouquet

My son was busy doing his contracting jobs in California and missed the deadline for Mother’s Day. However, he made up for it by sending this lovely colorful bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolate covered strawberries.

The flowers arrived in a vase with plant food and a water-soaked “keep fresh” soil packet and the chocolate strawberries arrived in an insulated package with an ice packet that was still partially frozen. My son did good as far as I’m concerned, late or not! 🙂

Happy Mothers Day

My MomHappy Mothers Day to all the Moms, especially to my 93 year old Mom. “Kate” moved to Wickenburg in March to become the newest resident of our local retirement ranch.

We were worried about how she would take to assisted living having been in her own house until just this year. The good news is she LOVES it here. The food is very good, the people are very nice and everything is done for her. The staff keeps the seniors busy with activities and games. The best news (for my sister and me) is her 24/7 care is quite affordable under our budget.

Mom has made a lot of new friends and seems to enjoy being with the other retirees in the assisted care program. She is always happy when Damsel and I come to visit, although she misses seeing my sister who still lives in California. The sister is planning to come to town next month sometime. Mom is anxious to show the sis her new, beautiful accommodations.

Make Mine Freedom

I found this buried in comments on a post on Facebook. The animated cartoon was made in 1948 and features voice impressions of Daws Butler who did voice overs for Beanie and Cecil, Yogi Bear and many others. This was produced back in the era when some of the colleges and media were still sane.

65th Annual Gold Rush Days Parade

Some readers may recall that I missed the 64th Annual Parade due to falling on my head early the morning of the parade. Fortunately, that did not happen this morning. Damsel and I walked to the parade route (about a quarter mile from home) and thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle.

Billed as the fourth largest parade event in Arizona, we witnessed the passage of some of the usual and some of the most unusual entries in the event. The American Legion Color Guard (local chapter) led the parade with a herd of Watusi Longhorn Cattle in trail. Popular character actor Wilford Brimley rode in the stagecoach along with the Riders in the Sky western music ensemble and several other “Grand Marshalls.”

Many of the classic cars we saw yesterday rode in the parade along with some we had not seen. There were bands, dancers, cowboy poets and a bunch of the local merchants and businesses that passed by. A couple of unusual entries were the Watusi Bull in a Cadillac and the “Poodle Posse” toward the end. We had fun and although we could see traces of snow on the foothills, there was no rain on our parade.
