Congress

Tip of the Iceberg

This may only be the first of a series of revelations of previously classified data. Why it takes this long for these vital facts to emerge is anyone’s guess. One might expect the administration would have a stake in disseminating this information and make it public. Why they have not done this, is also a mystery.

From Fox News:

Report: Hundreds of WMDs Found in Iraq

WASHINGTON — The United States has found 500 chemical weapons in Iraq since 2003, and more weapons of mass destruction are likely to be uncovered, two Republican lawmakers [Congressman Pete Hoekstra and Senator Rick Santorum] said Wednesday.

“We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons,” Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., said in a quickly called press conference late Wednesday afternoon. Reading from a declassified portion of a report by the National Ground Intelligence Center, a Defense Department intelligence unit, Santorum said: “Since 2003, coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent. Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq’s pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist.”

Dump Murtha

Blogs for Bush is urging readers to donate to the campaign of Diana Irey, who is opposing John Murtha for congress in Pennsylvania. So, I did — it’s my little way of supporting our military and calling “Jack the Ripoff” for what he is – a cut and run coward who is long overdue to get out of public service.

Please donate to Diana Irey if you can.

Also, BFB directed us to a new blog: Murtha Must Go. The new blog was started by a military mom DAD.

UPDATE: Somehow I got the gender wrong for the proprietor of Murtha Must Go – He’s a military Dad.

A Good Start for 2006

Yesterday, California held it’s primary elections. Of interest to us, locally, was the race pitting our over-developing mayor and city council against challengers who ran on a “less-development and fix the infrastructure first” platform. Damsel and I often noted the outrageous development and resulting load to the streets, sewers and other services in the city. Today, we have a new mayor and two new members on the council, displacing cronies of, and the soon-to-be former mayor.

Also of interest to us, were two propositions on the statewide ballot; one under the guise of “Reading and Literacy Improvement and Public Library Construction and Renovation,” and the other would place 4-year old children in “free” pre-schools for a year. Both would unnecessarily fleece taxpayers for progressive/socialist purposes. In other words, pump more money into failed educational systems and increase debt. Fortunately, both went down to defeat.

There was also a national interest in the results of Congressional District 50 to the south of us; the district vacated by “Duke” Cunningham when he admitted to bribes. Republican Brian Bilbray emerged victorious after a costly and contentious special election race against Democrat Francine Busby, a local school board member. That’s a good thing since the Democrats would have been given a net gain had this woman been elected. And who knows what momentum it may have stirred up for them.

All in all, we were satisfied with most of the election results, and look forward to re-electing Arnold as governor and electing Tom McClintock as lieutenant governor in November.

The Language Barrier

The Senate passed a bill that would make English the “common and unified” language of the United States. Now, perhaps, states like California can stop all this bilingual publishing at taxpayer expense. (I know — that would be too much to expect from the bunch of liberals in Sacramento.)

Conflicting Terms

House minority leader Nancy Pelosi (Dim, CA) has been depositing her smack graffiti all over the media recently about the Republican “culture of corruption.” Well, not to mince words, but if her idea is to associate “culture” with “corruption,” it seems she has a pretty good oxymoron going.

First, define culture – a high level of taste and enlightenment as a result of extensive intellectual training and exposure to the arts.

Next, corruption – impairment of integrity, virtue, or moral principle, decay, decomposition, inducement to wrong by improper or unlawful means, a departure from the original or from what is pure or correct.

Now, it’s clear to me that “culture of corruption” refers to “enlightened putrifaction” – a sickening and stark contrast in terms.

It seems to me that this Democratic crone-drone strikes a dischordant tone with many Americans.

Let’s propose another slogan or set of slogans that sounds cutesy like their slogan, but offers complimenting words, meaning essentially the same thing. Here’s a few suggestions along with a couple of recent examples to which they may be applied:

Democrats of debauchery
Democrats of decadence
Democrats of degeneracy
Democrats of degeneration
Democrats of degradation
Democrats of demoralization
Democrats of doom
Democrats of d’oh!

Harman’s Number One Priority

With immigration reform, homeland security and national defense looming as the most vital and important items on the congressional agenda, Rep. Jane Harman (D – CA 36) thinks that the “unprecedented attack” on Roe v. Wade eclipses those issues.

Right: Clueless Jane Harman

Quoting from Harman’s April 19, 2006 email newsletter (emphasis mine):

Today, we face an unprecedented attack on one of our most fundamental freedoms — the right of a woman to make a choice.

With more anti-choice jurists on the federal bench, the foundations of Roe v. Wade are being systematically chipped away. Last month, South Dakota enacted a draconian abortion ban, and as many as 12 other states are contemplating similar laws. Anti-choice activists everywhere are emboldened, believing that the stars are aligned for achieving their ultimate goal: overturning Roe and criminalizing abortion.

Harman’s characterization of pro-life Americans as “anti-choice” is typical of liberal babble speak when describing opposition to the socialist/progressive movement. If anyone is “anti-” everything, it’s Democrats who oppose National Defense and other seriously important issues. Don’t forget that Harman, unlike John Kerry, voted against the 87 billion Iraq defense bill before she voted against the 87 billion (again). Harman is “anti-anything important and vital” and not the other way around. Harman, herself, should take a look at the “stars alignment” and start defending America instead of making abortion rights her top priority.

Fixation on liberal issues by Harman and other Democrats in Congress continues to damage National Security, Immigration Enforcement (we don’t actually need “reform”) and detracts us from completing our all-important War on Terror. These fixations endanger the future security and well-being of all Americans.

Update: Read How Congressman Dana Rohrabacher is worlds different than Harman on Immigration.
