I just killed one of these in the garage this evening. They like to come out in monsoon season and infest under your “stuff” piled here and there. I sprayed Ortho all over the garage and at the entrance to the house. That particular brand of insect repellent/eradicator has done the trick here since we arrived in Arizona.
Bark scorpions can regularly be found all year long, but in the summer, especially at monsoon season, they are in abundance. We have seen them in sizes from less than an inch in length to over four inches.
They creep Damsel out a lot and I suppose they “bug” me a bit, too. They are fearsome-looking especially with the claws and the arched stinger tail in the strike pose. They appear to have eight appendages, but the “claws” are actually extended jaw parts for it to shove prey in its mouth. It’s not an arachnid, but an insect designated as Centruroides sculpturatus.

I say we take off and nuke ’em from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure…..

We don’t have nasty insects like scorpions here, but we sure have rattlers!
And bears….
And mountain lions….
Guess I’m lucky. Here in Hawaii we have scorpions, centipedes, and mostly democrats.
We would rather have scorpions than this bugger we took out of the garage exactly five years ago today.
I bet this guy doesn’t look a whole lot different than the democrat pests that James mentioned.

I’m not sure what I’d do other than keep the dog away from it.
We don’t have “Animal Control” here, we have the “Humane Society”. I think it’s all privately done, IIRC.
The photo is misleading. Snakes are actually better looking than the left-wing demographic.
Actually, this guy was lethargic, having recently eaten a rodent or something (see the bulge mid-snake). Plus, it was only about a foot in length. I scooped it up on a long-handled square shovel and took it across the driveway and tossed it into the vacant desert lot east of our property. It slithered away into the underbrush. No harm to either of us.
We have had non-poisonous gopher snakes in the garage since then and they get the same treatment.
All true scorpions are arachnids, the eight legs are a give-away – insects have only six legs. This species is indeed and arachnid. I used to find them quite a bit while hiking out your way when on work assignments in AZ.
