Well, it has been over a week since we posted anything here on the state of the world, etc. We have been busy with our October to-do list, consisting of a few chores and some important healthcare milestones.
Damsel took this photo of the harvest moon rising behind our big saguaro and ocotillo a couple of evenings ago. We are having a pleasant “second spring” with daytime temperatures in the high eighties to low nineties and nocturnal lows are still in the comfort zone of low to mid sixties. We love our desert retirement home.

Saguaro, ocotillo, moon… What’s not to like?
Yep – it certainly is a pleasant time of year.
Are those holes in some of the arms of The Big Guy?
Don’t certain birds actually hollow out the arms and nest in them?
The holes are pecked out by several species. Although we have not seen evidence of any nests, we have seen birds on and around the saguaro. The dwarf owl is said to be one of the nest builders in saguaros. The only owls we have seen here are the great horned variety whose wingspan is probably upwards of half the height of that cactus.
