On the way back from the valley a few days ago, Damsel snapped this photo of the front wheel of an eighteen wheeler. The operator had replaced the lug nuts with this exotic array of spiked cones that reminded me of the Ben Hur Chariot Race where the evil Massala had extended axles on his chariot designed to rip out the spokes of competing chariots. Yep – it was the first thing that ran through my mind out there on the road.
If he ever loses a hub-cap at highway speeds it looks like that could be a deadly weapon…just hope I’m not nearby when something like that happens…and yes, I remember the Ben Hur scene…exciting as it was it seemed that the wheel should have gave way at the first attack, but you know Hollywood, anything for a nail-biter.
