NASA’s twin Van Allen Probes, launched just last August, have revealed a previously unknown third radiation belt around Earth. Video and highlighted quote courtesy NASA.
Van Allen Probes Discover a New Radiation Belt
Previous observations of the Van Allen belts dating back to the late 1950s have documented two distinct regions of trapped radiation surrounding our planet, known as the inner and outer radiation belts. Particle sensors aboard the twin Van Allen Probes quickly revealed to scientists the existence of a transient, third radiation belt. Scientists observed the third belt for four weeks before a powerful interplanetary shock wave from the sun annihilated it.
What a surprise – the Sun modulates the Van Allen Belts.
Ah, my little gray cells did not fail me here as I was and remain a little bit knowledgeable of the Van Allen belts from my science lessons in both grammar and high schools. Yet, I was rather surprised to learn that they were only discovered in 1958 and were one of, if not the first, discovery of mankind’s space-age. Since they were only discovered in 1958, I wonder if there is an outside chance that they were caused by man’s use of nuclear weapons. There were an awful lot of nukes going off from 1935 through 1958. Just a curious notion, not trying to say that they caused or are going to cause anything but maybe it is possible they were caused by us. Just wondering (and hoping an ultra-leftist mad scientist type sees this and starts a new scare since global warming is getting old).
All the best,
Glenn B
I never thought that they could have been caused by nuke testing. They seem to be too extensive for that to be true. Plus, the third belt comes and goes with varying solar flux. That would suggest the Earth’s magnetic field and solar input have more to do with the phenomena than anything else.
But, you may be on to something that the left-tards can exploit . . .
