Cimarron Sage

cleve-sage.jpg

UPDATE: Error correction. I used Cleveland instead of Cimarron sage – the Clevelands (3) are in the courtyard not by the driveway. I edited the title and the post accordingly.

This is a close up of one of several Cimarron sage bushes that our landscape contractor planted along our driveway. They planted five of these and three of five are doing great. One, near the top of the driveway was a slow starter, but it’s going to make it. Another completely died; the contractor will be out to replace it since each bush is guaranteed. Google Aerial View Updated

I was goofing around with the computer last night and discovered that Google Maps® updated their aerial photos of Wickenburg. This is our parcel with the landscaping (mostly) installed. This is the highest resolution available. North is up.

My goodness! What nice little piece of the desert!

The Big Guy

This is our giant saguaro cactus we call the “Big Guy.” I took this image of the Big Guy from the road in front of the house this afternoon against the cloudscape and the natural vegetation on the hill to the east of our house. Click on the image to enlarge.

Ebbing Twilight

I had been threatening to get this image for a while now. I wanted to take the tripod and the little Canon SX110 Power Shot down to the road after sundown to capture the accent lighting we placed under the “Big Guy” 13 foot saguaro cactus. I think I succeeded and got some bonus items in the image. You can see one of Damsel’s dark-sky-friendly sconces, the blue neon glow from the “Route 66” clock in the garage, the courtyard gate and a couple of stars among the passing clouds. Taken around 8:15 PM. Click on the image to enlarge.

Mature Red Birds

We took Cabela to the vet today to have her immunizations updated. She got the trifecta – Parvo, Kennel Cough and Rabies. Poor thing.

Anyhow, just outside of the vet’s office, there are several mature Red Bird of Paradise shrubs. I am hoping that next summer my courtyard will have as prolific an array of the colorful flowers.

View from the West Road

We have been taking walks up to our neighbor’s house while she is in Montana. The road runs east/west from the pavement to the east up to the neighbor’s house to the west. We were heading back to the house when I snapped this image of our cute little house and some of the desert vegetation along the way. Click on the image to enlarge.
