Early Spring Cactus Flower Slideshow

We have been having a wonderful array of spring cactus flowers here in town. I took many of the images in the slideshow here in our yard, although some in other yards here in town. The cactus types are hedgehog, Argentine Giant, prickly pear, beavertail and cholla. Click on the slideshow above to advance through the ten-image array.

Twin Beavertail Cactus Flowers

Twin Beavertail Cactus Flowers

There are so many flowers opening this month that it is hard to decide which photos to post. Today’s winner is this image of two side-by-side beavertail cactus flowers. They will be gone tomorrow or the next day, so we will enjoy them while we can. Click on the image to enlarge.

The Hedgehog Cactus Flowers are Opening

Hedgehog Flowers

We have been expecting the hedgehog cactus flowers to open just after the first few days of spring. Well, they’re starting to open. The first two were open yesterday and a third one opened today. It looks like another will be opening tomorrow, too.

We’re still waiting on our beavertail cactus flowers which should start to open soon. Click on the image to enlarge.

Nesting Season

Nesting Season

There are several Curve Billed Thrasher couples in the area that have shown signs of building nests in the cholla cactus around the area. I expect to find several eggs in the next few weeks in the nests that these interesting birds have built. Click on the image to enlarge.

Gelato Roses

Gelato Roses

I bought a dozen of these “Gelato” roses at the supermarket today. They have the same name as the Italian ice cream. I believe we saw a shade of gelato similar to the color of these roses when we were in Rome. Click on the image to enlarge.

Oh, that bowl with daffodils that I posted about the other day, the daffodils have all opened.

More Spring Daffodils (Coming Soon)

Daffodils

Bob ran to the store today to get a few things for us this week. While he was there, he picked up four more bunches of unopened daffodil stems and brought them home. Simce all the bud vases are currently busy with the daffodils I brought home last week, I had to get out my Waterford rose bowl to contain the new stems. Some a r already beginning to open. I love spring. It was 80 ° today and I think that warmer temperatures won’t be far away. Click on the image to enlarge.
