This is the native compass cactus up on the hill behind the house. It is hidden up there and requires a trip into the “outback,” our cholla and palo verde forest up there in order to catch a glimpse of it. I got this picture today with only one of several buds open. Click on the image to enlarge.
That cactus virtually screams:
I am pretty to look at
but not so nice to hold,
don’t touch my flowers
unless your exceptionally bold.

Ah, yes. Ferocactus cylindraceus. This is the common barrel in our part of the desert. Nice looking cactus, BTW.
It is, grown naturally without human help.
Yep. I always believed that God allows some cacti to adapt well to our ministrations for our enjoyment, but He’s capable of growing them better than we can.
