At about the half-way point across California on our way from the Colorado River to the old homestead, lies the Whitewater rest stop. Whitewater is located in the Banning pass between Mount San Gorgonio and Mount San Jacinto. This is an image of San Jacinto taken from the rest stop while we were taking a break from the grueling drive across I-10. Click on the image to enlarge.
Thought that was San Jacinto. I topped that one three times in my life, & got a free ride on the tram each time.
Wow! Three times to the summit? That’s great!
The closest I’ve been to the summit was flying over it in a helicopter on the way to refuel at Palm Springs on a ferry flight from Long Beach to El Paso. Jim (my co-pilot) and I flew over at about five hundred feet to get some photos of it.
That was a long time ago.
