After visiting the Wickenburg Sportsmen’s Club on Saturday, we drove down a road along the east bank of the Hassayampa River. This view shows Vulture Peak in the distance and the river in the foreground. The town is in between the two landmarks. Click on the image to enlarge.
This is a seasonal river?
Water flows on the surface on occasion during monsoons but only briefly. The river flows mostly underground from near Prescott down to the confluence with the Gila west of Phoenix. The Hassayampa River Preserve, just south of Wickenburg is one of the few places the river flows above ground.

Ahhh…an underground river.
I’ve heard of them, and now I’ve “seen” one!
Doesn’t look a thing like I imagined it from Robert F. Jones’ “Blood Sport”…
I wasn’t aware of the Hassayampa in fantasy context. Interesting.
