I usually take a couple of videos when we go to the range, and Sunday was no exception. Damsel loaded seven .357 magnum rounds into the S&W 686 and emptied the revolver in bursts averaging one per second. The unique thing about this video is that all seven rounds produced prominent muzzle flashes.
When I want to capture a muzzle flash, I usually have to single-step through the video to a frame with the nice flash. I generally get a nice bright plume every few rounds and can make a still picture out of a selected frame. The thing missing from a still, however, is the nice, dynamic nature of the real thing.

She handles that 357 pretty good. What was her hit ratio. Pretty good I bet. I ran a range while in the Air Force, and a lot of our female cops couldn’t even handle a .38 as good she does that 357.
She does pretty good, actually. We weren’t keeping score but I could see most of the rounds landing near the center of mass.
I admire the way she has come to be very confident and comfortable with all of our guns.
Well, to be fair, these were lighter bullets – 124 grain versus the 158 grain bullets that really pack a wallop. I like the 158s better but man they kick the muzzle up a bunch. I do ok with those too but we shoot the lighter ones during practice.
I couldn’t even get your page to load well from the cached pages at Google, and the tribute link I have on my blog wasn’t loading. That was my first clue that something was amiss. Anyway, I am glad you are still here! 🙂
On another note, I have been thinking about taking up shooting. Since it appears that you and the Damsel are experienced in this area, do you have any recommendations on how to get started?

Definitely go to your local shooting range and sign up for the NRA first steps program. It’s designed for beginners and you will be able to learn about guns and shooting. The courses generally include some time getting instruction and experience on the shooting range.

The object should be to make the most effective shots in the least amount of time possible. You should work on technique to improve until you can engage multiple targets…
In a firefight, just standing there won’t cut it.
