One year from today, we plan to be in Casper Wyoming to observe the August 21, 2017 total eclipse of the sun. We have been getting ready for the event for over four years.
“Ready” includes making reservations at a campground near the centerline of totality, planning the trip to include some optional, scenic side excursions and purchase of a couple dozen commemorative eclipse shades from Rainbow Symphony. We are also preparing to use the camera and telescope to record this spectacular event.

This post from May of 2012 has a map of the path of totality and some details about the eclipse. I also did some on-line research and found Eclipsophile.com/Wyoming which forecast a 75% chance for clear skies in August. We’re hoping that it will be so.
Hopefully we’ll be settled in our new place in Fort Collins.
Just a short drive up I-25 to where the path crosses south eastern Wyoming!
We’re hoping for good weather. Wyoming tends to have thunderstorms in August but mostly in the afternoon. Totality occurs late morning a little before eleven AM.
You’re just a couple of hours from Glendo, which is on the centerline of totality. Cool! We have a week of camping planned along the way to Casper.
Well, if we’re in a house by then, I’ll make sure you guys have the address so you can stop by!
Sounds like a plan. We will be ascending through Western Colorado where my Mom’s family and ancestors are and then descending (after the eclipse) through Ft. Collins down to Pueblo where my Dad’s family and ancestors are.
Look forward to seeing your new place and the visit. Maybe you can find us a place to park our big rig overnight. That would be cool.
If we get the kind of house we both seem to want, you won’t have any “parking problem”!
