I stood by the patio trying to keep myself concealed from some quail on the hill behind our house. I was going to try and capture some wild bird photos from this slight cover when a hummingbird approached Damsel’s feeder not three feet away and commenced to get some of the nectar.
With the new camera, it only took a matter of a second or two to reacquire the target at close range, deploy the flash and capture the shot seen above. I sure like the new camera. Click on the image to enlarge.
The amount and variety of Hummingbirds that I saw on my various trips to AZ always has amazed me. Until I first saw them there, in good numbers, I would never have thought that they were creature of the desert. Beautiful birds are they, enjoy them.
Although we used to see hummingbirds in our Southern California home, we are amazed, as you were, at the numbers and varieties. They also (obviously) stay in the area year round. Damsel and I enjoy them on a daily basis. We especially like the “Hummingbird Wars” where the little guys compete for the privilege of gathering nectar at Damsel’s feeders.
I used to keep our hummingbird feeder full, BUT the ants and honey bees found it quite delicious.
I came out one morning and it had HUNDREDS of bees all over it.
Interesting . . . The feeders are just across the RV drive from where bees are almost constantly browsing the rosemary bushes. Maybe it keeps them occupied and they don’t go for the feeders.
We have yet to find a lot of ants although some get in it once in a while. I suppose they drown before alerting the hive.
