When we were finishing the retirement house two years ago, we felt it to be imperative that we get our back patio screened in. Thus far, that has been the right decision. The screen keeps (most) flying bugs out and provides a relatively safe place to confine the dogs when we’re outside.
I took this image of the patio from the hill behind the house today, just after I hung up Damsel’s seed bell and thistle feeders for the birds. Click on the image to enlarge.
Just curious, but how come you went with dark shingles? I’d think that white shingles would keep the temperature down inside the patio.
It’s difficult to see from the image below, but the shingles are (sort of) reddish like the house exterior. The rest of the house proper has off-white roofing that reflects the sunlight. We figured the patio was going to be hot in the summer and cold on winter nights and never gave the shingle color much thought.
Yeah, I guess if it’s not insulated it doesn’t matter much what color they are.
And with all that window/screen area, I’m guessing it would be pretty hard to insulate!
