I added an additional hummingbird feeder at the other end of the patio last week. Now there are two feeders, but the little hummers still seem to bicker over who gets to feed where. No matter, though, we have seen as many as four at a time perched or hovering at the feeders. The fact that they go dry every few days says someone must be getting fed! Click on the image to enlarge.
We had a hummingbird nest in our lime tree this spring. I got to watch the process from eggs to fledgling birds. Talk about a warm, fuzzy feeling, as well as awe! (And I saved the nest.)
Was the nest made of webs, spider webs?
I think so. It sure feels like it is.
Oh, and the Black Widows we have here are probably the source.
We have ones that sling them out to see where they land. I wondered because someone told me they made them out of spider webs. Interesting.
