This Schlumbergera is one of the first houseplants I bought locally for the Arizona house. Even though it’s popular name is Christmas cactus, this one seems to have its flowers in April like an Easter cactus. No matter, though, the flowers are very pretty. Click on the image to enlarge.
They will throw the occasional off-season flower. Of course, their big show is late fall-early winter, after sensing lengthening nighttime. (That’s why they say don’t put it where artificial light will interfere with its day-night cycle.)
We’ve had it for two years this is the first bloom. All the other buds fell off and got eaten by the dog.
Guess your dog got a *ahem* sweet treat 😀
See if you can leave it where it senses fall by the changing day-night cycle. Once you place it, don’t move it. Moving it before the buds are fully formed is the most likely cause of bud drop.
Ive had it in the window, by the water cooler, in the front room window, in the bathroom for the summer and got one bud. Hummm lotsa work for one bud.
I dunno, then. Maybe it’ll take a few years to acclimate.
