Using photographs that Damsel took during the eclipse, I threw together a little animation of the main part of the event. To start the animation, click the image below; it will run until maximum annularity. Click again to continue to almost the end of annularity. Click once more to to rewind. Pardon the slight jitter; it was difficult to align each frame perfectly.
I cannot tell you how amazingly spectacular it was to see in person. Damsel and I are already starting to plan for the total eclipse that will occur on August 21, 2017. We are looking at being near Casper, WY, but that could change between now and five years from now.
Hey thanks for the heads up on this.
I caught your early warning 2-3 months ago which gave me time to get the eclipse glasses ordered. I had little problem selling off the surplus. That put eclipse glasses in 20 or so people that otherwise would not have had them. Plus another half dozen that we personally shared our glasses with. Gotta love the awe on the face of a 5YO seeing the sun missing a piece. Or watching the “too cool 15YO”‘s brain go poof at the view. You could just tell he’d just seen something never contemplated.
BTW, we showed up to the “viewing party”* in Gilbert but they had nothing set up. They didn’t have glasses for sale, very few telescopes, no program to educate attendees on what was happening. Plus the parking situation was a mess. What a missed opportunity. They could have made so much money and made many fans.
Thanks again for the early heads up.
Thanks for that excellent report, Danno. It’s good to know that our efforts helped somebody enjoy the same interesting stuff that we enjoy.
I sent a dozen of the eclipse shades to our friends on the Colorado River. Even though there were only a dozen, our friends reported that twenty-one folks got to see the eclipse.
I told my wife we WILL be there.
