Ron, one of our friends on the River, made this cute little yellow birdhouse for us. Today, I took it out to my “musical mesquite” tree, where I hang wind chimes and other colorful decorative things, and hung it on one of the branches. We want to hang it higher in the tree to encourage birds to occupy it, but we left it where it was when a wind gust came up and knocked over my mini-greenhouse up in the courtyard. We ran up there and cleaned up the mess in the courtyard. Amazingly, we did not lose any of the plants in the courtyard or in the greenhouse. Click on the image to enlarge.
Do bluebirds frequent your area? We get them all the time here in Alabama…but not before we had a learning experience…someone told us to make sure the opening to the birdhouse faces east…once we did that the bluebirds have been reproducing ever since…

ps: Actually this message is coming to you from Cape Cod but we will be back in Alabama in mid July. Chickadees are my favorite here.
Ummm… Just a thought: the wind chimes may frighten the birds away. I used to make spinners out of soda cans to keep birds away from my peaches.
Norm: Didn’t know that about facing east. We’ll try it.
Crotalus: Not sure if they’ll scare away the birds but, we have been thinking this isnt the final place for the birdhouse.
