Many of the saguaro cacti in the area have started to bloom. The saguaro flower is the state flower of Arizona. I took this photo at the shopping center at the west end of town this afternoon on the way home from the dog park. Click on the image to enlarge.
How’s your new saguaro doing?
Not here yet, but we are hopeful soon. Our landscaper is in New York. He sez soon. (Sigh)
Ahhh….and here I thought you got it replaced right after the first one died.
Nope still waiting. I’m not getting any younger.
Hmmm… Maybe it’s time to find one who knows what he’s doing with these cacti? I hate to hear of people losing one to landscapers who don’t know what they’re doing. Latest I hear, is that saguaros should be planted at the same depth as that which they grew naturally, which means bracing, and they should be oriented to the same compass direction as their native site (sunburn on their north side, and all that.)
Maybe your landscaper does that, but I would check.
“Dave” and his family have been professionally transplanting saguaros since 1905. He planted two others here and used the root depth and compass orientation for all three.
There is a slideshow in this post showing the installation of the big cactus.
We’re merely waiting for the landscaper to get together with “Dave” to select another cactus from the landscaper’s property in the Arizona Outback.
O.K., I just didn’t know, but it sounds like you’re dealing with someone knowledgeable and reputable.
