I was taking pictures of some of the beautiful spring cactus flowers in the neighborhood when this little guy dashed out from under one of the cacti. A quick scan through my “Desert Critters” reference book and couldn’t find a lizard exactly matching this one. A “zebra tail” was listed but had different markings elsewhere. We’ve got a few of his (?) cousins running around the back yard when it gets warm out.
Cabela and Bear like to chase them, We’ve got one around Vulture mine that runs with its tail in the air like a scorpion.
That is a Zebra Tail, and they do often run with their tails over their backs. And talk about fast! *Zip* Wait… there was a lizard there…
Our dogs don’t quite know what to make of them, although I’m sure if they caught one they’d make a snack out of it!
Cabela has but just the tail. . .is that like not inhaling?
Getting just the tail is quite a trick with these little desert speedsters. Good on Cabela!
She’s a quick one.
