When I checked the PO Box today, I discovered that the Scorpion UV flashlights had arrived. We drove home and I opened up the package to find these little, but powerful, units.
The light is powered by three AAA batteries. There are 32 UV LEDs that produce a very bright reflection when directed toward items that fluoresce in UV light. I found a few things in the office that lit up nicely under the UV light.

We’re anxious for nightfall so we can take the UV lights outside and see if there are any fluorescent critters around, or, maybe some fluorescent minerals around the area. It will be interesting to see what glows in the dark.
What’s with the warning labels? Does it put out so much UV that it’s dangerous?
Product liability.
They’re just afraid some stoner will stare into it for hours trying to see the light, and then sue them when he goes blind!
The scary thing is, there are dimwits who would do that!
Apparently, they are a little dangerous. The distributor recommends that users wear yellow UV attenuating goggles when operating the light.
We took the lights outside last night but we didn’t see any scorpions or anything else that glowed in UV light. A couple of man-made things like a plastic fly swatter lit up, but no minerals or critters. 🙁
