Well, last night, actually. When I went out front this morning, I saw that my first saguaro flower had opened overnight. The flower is up at about the eleven foot mark on the cactus, so I will be unable to get an image of it face on. Not to worry, though, there are plenty of buds on the lower arms that will continue opening this spring and summer. Click on the image to enlarge.
They really pop open, don’t they?
They are beautiful. Can’t tell if they smell yet.
And at ELEVEN FEET above the ground, please be careful!
I will Thanks!
Lots of saguaros out in the desert have arms that twist down to eye level. You should be able to look right down the throat of those flowers.
Years ago, I lived in Tucson, and once, I picked a saguaro flower. I kept it in a small glass in my fridge, and it lasted for two weeks! It might have lasted longer, but I finally brought it out to enjoy for the rest of its time.
There is some in town that are low enough for a picture. Our buds are gonna be low enough also. More to come!
Crotalus, really over 2 weeks WoW!
