For as long as we have been traveling back and forth between California and Arizona, today marked the first time we stopped to see these Native American petroglyphs along US 60 near Salome, AZ. According to a guide book we bought in a NPS visitor center, some of these could be as old a 1,700 years. Click on the image to enlarge.
A former girlfriend of mine took the special tour they offer at the NAWS in China Lake, out by Ridgecrest, to see the petroglyphs they have there. Being where it is, in an active naval gunnery range, they’re VERY well preserved.
As many times as I’d been out there for Hughes, I never knew they had anything like that!
They look similar to the Hawaiian petroglyphs
Dr Jim I’d read something about the ones at China Lake, There is supposed to be hundreds. I’d like to see that some day.
Kini really huh. I guess the ancients all over were thinking about the same. Kinda really cool!
We’ve seen them all over. Some you can figure out what they mean some not so much.
