We made a deal and signed a landscaping proposal yesterday. That afternoon, a dump truck brought 50 tons of river rock and another 50 tons of Sedona red crushed rock. The former will go on the slopes around the front part of the lot and the latter will cover the flat places and the RV driveway. Eight more tons of quarter-inch gravel will cover the non-paved portions of the courtyard and dog run.

This morning, the landscape crew showed up and immediately started clearing off the area, installing the irrigation system, removing unwanted vegetation and trimming up those trees and shrubs we want to keep. This afternoon, they began placing the river rock on the sloped areas. When they left this afternoon, the front yard had been transformed from scruffy to presentable.
Gonna be gorgeous when you’re done! That’s just about what I did to the little strip of land on the South side of our driveway. Dug it all out,and refilled it with sand and crushed rock, and put the river stones back on it.
I’d do the whole front yard like that, but I’d have to have a couple of truckloads of the stuff brought in!
Fifty tons of each! Four LARGE truckloads.
WOW! When do you put in the drawbridge and moat? 🙂
Just curious, but how much did all that cost?
The YF would really like to do the front yard in a “low water/low maintenance” theme. I wasn’t half-joking about doing the whole front yard like I did the strip by the driveway!
Kini – We won’t be getting a drawbridge but there is a three inches thick gate coming for the courtyard arch. Plus, we don’t need a moat in Arizona – we have constitutional carry and castle doctrine for our firearms. 😉
DrJim – I think we paid around $75 per square yard for both the rock and labor to install it.
