I felt sorry for the technician who performed the installation because he had to install a temporary coaxial cable in a trench he had to dig because the PVC pipe to the cable terminal was blocked. The company will send a special unit later this week to complete the permanent installation.
But, as of today, we have our high speed internet and can watch the BCS college championship game between Oregon and Auburn!
Ahhhh…you went with cable. What speeds are you getting?
Hmmmm, we have DSL. The throughput is pretty good. We use VOIP and have several PC’s active. It’s an old Verizon/Sprint Network.
I Just ran the Cox speed test:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 20164 kbps (2520.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1423 kbps (177.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 36 ms

Not too shabby. I’m using the laptop over our wireless connection. The router is a wired/wireless box with four RJ-45 jacks.
That’s about what we were getting when we had cable.
Since we’ve gone to FiOS, the speeds are just insane. 35 meg download, 25 up.
Unfortunately, the local telephone provider is Qwest and they do not offer a fiber optic solution. I think we’ll be OK with the cable.
We used our little Verizon MiFi wireless access for both laptops before we got cable and it worked pretty well. It’s a 3G dial-up with connections for up to five wireless devices. Up to this point, that was our connection on the road.
