Smokescreen

butt suckerWith the passage of the Porkulus and Omnibus, a provision to levy a new tax on tobacco products will soon go into effect. Folks out there will be paying almost double for a pack of cigarettes.

Now, during the campaign, Obama made sure to tell low-income voters that they would benefit from the taxes he would enact on the ‘rich.’ What he failed to tell the smokers among those low-income folks, was that they would be paying ’sin taxes.’

I hope all you smokers out there that voted for this disaster of a president enjoy paying your eighty dollars a carton.

Obama? He don’t care - he can afford the tax on his butts.

Not to mention the end of those Bush tax reductions on the horizon. In 6 months, there will be so much buyer’s remorse, a competent republican will be a welcomed change.

Finding a popular and competent Republican may be a challenge in 2012. Damsel and I keep asking ourselves ‘How the hell did McCain get the nomination?’

We are, however, hopeful that 2010 will shift back to a more conservative Senate and House.

We just have to gird our loins in the meantime.

The outrageous taxes on tobacco are repugant to me even though I don’t smoke. Smokers should unite or else begin to grown their own. Vast agencies in government would cease to exist if people stopped smoking. Wonder where the next draconian taxes will hit–coca cola, and M&M’s.

. . . or anything with trans fat, lead, CO2 emission or hazmat disposal. And don’t forget removing tax deductions for charitable contributions, mortgage interest, etc.
