At last – Damsel’s Utah Concealed Firearm Permit arrived in the mail today. It takes about sixty days for the Utah Department of Public Safety to process the paperwork and do a background and fingerprint check.
We hoped to get the permit prior to our recent vacation but due to my procrastination and other work-related complications we started about six weeks later than what it would take to get the permits in time. On our vacation we traveled in several states that honor the Utah carry permit – Utah (of course), Nevada and Arizona – the only one where we went that doesn’t recognize the Utah CCW, sadly for us since we live here, is California. A couple of months ago, I posted about a man suing our police chief and mayor to get a CCW here in our town. I tried finding how that’s going and couldn’t find anything about it. I’m hoping that it resolves our town’s attitude about CCW but I’m not holding my breath.
Where is my Utah CCW? Not here, not yet. I hope it’s on the way. There was a little foul-up on the part of the USPS in getting my application to the Utah Bureau; we sent our applications in separate envelopes on the same day via certified mail. Hers arrived four days before mine did. Even with all of the computerized automation, the denizens of the USPS manage to screw things up without even trying.
I wasn’t aware that there were reciprocal CCW agreements between states. Of course NY is out of the question. In my county the judges refuse to issue carry permits. The only permits they allow are the ones where you can have a gun in your house or carry it to a pistol range. That is it. I am hoping that someone sues these idiots. Maybe the same thing will happen in CA.
Probably next year we’ll be in Monterey visiting our daughter who will be attending the Defense Language Institute. She’ll be there for a year and a half or until the Army gets tired of training her..
California is the same – liberal judges and politicians have made it very bad for legitimate gun owners – basically as you described NY. Our Police Chief is the ‘shall issue’ bottleneck here – refuses to issue any other than ‘special’ cases. One individual filed suit and the case is pending.
My niece attended the DLI in Monterrey several years ago. She trained in Russian to eavesdrop on air to ground transmissions in Eastern Europe. Alas, she is a hopeless liberal living in Paris these days. Her dad and granddad are rolling in their graves and I just shake my head.
Yeah, it’s crazy how many people are against Concealed Carry. I’m glad to hear that you were able to enjoy the vast number of locations where you can take your Utah Concealed Carry Permit. I don’t know what it’s going to take for crazy Judges in California to relax a little more. The sad truth is that gun control only controls law abiding citizens. You can’t legislate away criminal activity…you can only protect against it.
Wow! I’m impressed by the MyUtahCCW.com site!
Some people get it, like the folks at that site. I appreciate the comments they left here and encourage anyone who wants to get the Utah CCW and who can get to the vicinity of Salt Lake City to sign up for their course.
The instructor is a vet of the Utah Army National Guard. An appropriate comment to come in on the evening of Veterans Day.
I sent in my application about 10 days ago. I didn’t think to send it certified. How long did it take for BCI to charge your credit card or cash your check?
Hey, George,
I wrote the check a little over two weeks before it showed up in the statement from the bank. The permits started arriving at just about sixty days after they received the applications.
Since the USPS managed to deliver my application four days after Damsels, my permit arrived that many business days later than hers. I think they have an assembly line approach to the permit process.
Thanks. I was starting to worry, but it hasn’t been quite two weeks yet. I couldn’t find that bit of information anywhere else. Thanks again.
No problem, George, glad to help out.
Good luck with your new Utah CCW permit – you should have it in about five to six weeks.
