A couple of weeks ago, I read an article written by a former policeman who is now a medical examiner doing autopsies in Atlanta. The article, Terminal Ballistics as Viewed in a Morgue, discussed the stopping power of various types of ammunition. Bottom line: the bigger, the better and hollow points do a serious number on the body.
We each now keep a magazine filled with these bigger and better Hornady .45ACP +P 230 grain hollow-points near the Glock 30 and the Para Warthog.

The Army did a study on woundings induced by 9mm and 45 ACP in the late 80’s, early 90’s. The 45 won out (all their ballistic jelly surrendered) but they still went to the 9mm anyway. I got the VCR tape from the guys evaluating transitioning to 45 from 38, took i thome, watched it and gave it back w/o making a copy …. I’m an idiot. It was put out by an Army Center in MD.
Interesting choice going to 9mm anyway. The article I linked made a point that the smaller caliber didn’t break bones as readily as the .45. An assailant shot in the leg, for example, is more likely to go down with shattered or broken leg bones.
Too bad you didn’t get a copy of the video – maybe it’s on You Tube or something these days.
