OK – the break-in period is over and she still has the occasional round hang up halfway into the barrel – so I’m going to make an interim report (again) pending one more step in the process.
A commenter (Rob) on my previous post about the ‘hog, expressed great satisfaction with the gun. The only difference is that he uses the cleaner/lubricant ‘Strike Hold’ on his weapon. We’ve been using oil and some lube (gone now) that came with the gun. Today, we placed an order for a couple of cans of Strike Hold and should have it prior to the next outing at the range.
This week, I shot about 100 new rounds of 230 grain Federal .45 ACP. I had only two or three rounds that required clearing. The gun seems to be at it’s best when I start shooting and with one early exception, the hangups happened after the gun got a little dirty.
I’ll have another post after we have a chance to use the new cleaner/lube on it.
Hope you get that baby shootin’ right!
I’m an old gunner and I’ve always been skeptical of claims of “break-in” for firearms. If there was ever a tool that must work out of the box, it’s a gun. I have never found a problem with a firearm that was not some manufacturing deficiency. I always recommend purchasing a firearm based on its proven reliability as opposed to its price. The single most contributing factor to “hang ups” with auto handguns is a weak wrist hold. A .45 auto firing a 230 grain bullet is literally a hand cannon. Holding it is a challenge for most people. Concentrate on a strong side, strong wrist and I’ll bet you’ll eliminate miss feeds, stovepipes and other miscellaneous hang ups. If that’s not the problem, I would return it. Two to three problems per 100 rounds is unacceptable. Good luck.
Thanks for the information William. We initially got a lot of favorable feedback about the gun, but as you can read, there has been some difficulty. Some of the problem is probably with the lubrication and cleaning of the gun after taking delivery. We’re learning more about it and
have high expectations.
