I’ve had my Para Ordinance Warthog for a couple of months now, and it’s finally showing signs of breaking in. Even with brand-new .45 ACP ammo, she would jam – a lot. I mean about once per 10 round magazine – sometimes twice. Gradually, after I learned how much lube this gun needs, she calmed down to one jam every couple of magazines. She’s been getting steadily better as I continue to shoot her every week.
Right – an ejected shell can be seen frozen in mid-flight as I fired the Warthog. Click to enlarge.
Today, I put about 90 rounds through her and she only jammed a couple of times. I got off forty or fifty rounds without a jam at one point. Anyhow, I’m sure that she’ll soon smooth out and start to perform like a competition pistol. I’m keeping the faith ’cause she sure is pretty.
I intended to give a full report on the Para Ordinance Warthog, and I still plan to do so. I just thought it would be a good idea to wait until after the break-in period. Soon, I promise.
My buddy had his Warthog out this past Saturday and the performance was awful. It jammed on every clip at one point it was down to being a one shooter.
I wonder how new your buddy’s ‘hog is. Our gunsmith (and Para) recommend shooting only newly minted ammo (not reloads) through the pistol until it is fully broken in.
I read an article on-line somewhere that described a factory modification to install a “power ejector” that smooths out and improves the action. Maybe that’s the answer.
Yep, the Para has been a disappointment to me, but Damsel wants to stick with it.
I shoot mostly reloads through my Glock 30. Yesterday it actually jammed once. That was the first and only time it jammed – ever. The 26 has never jammed – over 5000 rounds thus far.
Glock is the way to go on any hand gun. I love my G19 and have thought about a G 30.
My buddy has been shooting only newly minted ammo. I told him I would put ti on the auction block and get a real gun but he wants to try and make it work. ‘ll pass your comments on to my bud. Thanks and Merry Chirstmas
I may be the odd one out here but I love my Warthog I have quite a few hand guns from Kimber to Colt to the trusty S&W 59 9mm and my Para is by far my favorite…but I must admit I have never shot reloads in it so it seldom jams
I’m so thrilled! Today, at the range the Warthog jammed only once out of 100 rounds – and that was when I tried to shoot left-handed (one hand) – she didn’t like it, so I switched back and no more jams. She’s showing signs of being completely broken in – and she’s already my most-pampered if not my favorite gun. I spent about an hour this afternoon getting her all spic ‘n’ span.
I can’t believe what I’m reading here! I bought my Warthog around Halloween. I have had no failure to feed or fire since the first round. I have reloaded most the ammo shot through it as well as w sxt and golden sabre. I may be lucky. I own Kimber, Colt, and even a Wilson Combat. This incredible pistol has been the most enjoyable buy I have had in years! The only difference I did on this pistol is to lube it with Strike Hold. I used this stuff after being in the desert under combat. I broke in in with win white box (200 rounds) and have run after that, through it nothing but handloads of my own. If you are using reloads I must assume that you have purchased these instead of reloading yourself. Mostly they are crap and are designed to shoot in the weakest made hand gun. This pistol eats 230 gr loads without problems. I have found that it likes 200gr better. Don’t give up the Warthog rocks, its the only pistol I intend to carry!
I’m using only new Federal American Eagle 230 grain FMJ. The Warthog has been behaving pretty good for the last couple of sessions, but it still has a tendency to jam once in a while – maybe once every 80-100 rounds.
After Rob left his comment above, I looked up Strike Hold and plan to pick some up at the gun show later this month. Maybe that will fix the occasional jamming problem.
